full cage

just wondering if anyone makes, or would be willing to supply, a full race caterham cage in flat pack form - i.e. all tubes bent & marked but not welded together?

a mate wants one but is based in dubai and the cost of shipping a built cage is a tad ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure a skilled fabrictor could cut one up so it could be rewelded. Even easier if you can find someone witha plasma cutter.

You only need to cut the tubes which link the front and rear hoops, to reduce the size dramatically.


Alternatively go speak to some freight forwarders who could fill the volumetric space with other goods.

I found caged very helpful when I bought a roadsport cage for my SV. Have a word with them.
They may be willing to sell you one not welded up.
It wouldn´t have an approval sticker of course.

cutting a cage is not ideal. lack of certification is ok though as it's not going to be raced and we have local fabricators who are more than up to the job.

I should be clear - you would cut apart the welds, reprep and reweld. Probably indistinguishable from new once powder coated.

Do caged (assuming www.cagedlaser) sell direct to the public direct rather than caterham, any other manufactures sell of the shelf caterham cages.

The trouble with buying flatpack is the chassis does not have the mounting bosses, so it will be a bit more tricky to line everything up.

Caged do sell direct.
I bought my SV roadsport cage from them.

I don´t know about the newer metric chassis, but my Arch chassis had the forward mounting boss´s already in place under the skin.

The rears are the same as used for the roll bar.

much less hassle and cheaper to buy one. i can get first class welding done FOC but decent metal fab. from someone who knows what they're doing costs £££.

I've just tried to price a transport: working on 120*140*80 and 30 kgs, airport to airport comes around gbp 170 with customs entry. And i'm sure it can be done for less (once correct dims are known). This way you know it would be welded properly and FIA approved. PM me if you want more details.
