How much is a second hand steering rack worth?

I've been asked to put an offer in for a Caterham steering rack, is there any thing I should look for before purchase and what is it worth?!

Is it the "normal" rack or the "quick" rack? I'd search Blatchat/eBay for prices.

Advert says its for a short track car and this is the photo...

Can't see the pic here but it sounds like it is likely to be the quick rack. Do a search on Blatchat and I'm sure you'll find threads about identifying which is which - I can't remember how you tell the difference.

Seeing as they're £300 or so on the Catreham website, I think you did just fine

For an 8% narrow track rack, £100-120 is quite usual. You've done well. 22% tend to go for a bit more.

wonder how they come up with £300 for a manual rack ? I priced one last week for a Mk2 escort Mexico Im restoring from local motor factors and was only £25 plus vat.

Thank you all for your response, only down side was I thought I had everything except the arches to convert the car until, I check the RHS wing Stay I bought from ebay last week to match the LHS one I already had and turns out it is another LHS! Bugger.
