What to do while I wait for my kit?

Hi All,
This is my first post. I have a supersport kit on order to be delivered in June - I've been waiting 20 years so I image the next few months are going to drag!
I'm scratching around for things to do while I wait. Any suggestions on how best to to prepare? The closest I've come to anything like this before is building r/c aeroplanes so hopefully some of the skills will be transferable, but, I don't really have any of the tools so am going to start purchasing them over the coming months.
Has anyone kept a record of tools they purchased for the build?

Read the build manual, then read it again!
Make sure you tap every threaded hole on the car before fitting anything. They will be full of powdercoat.
Use lots of assembly paste/coppaslip. Also get some red rubber grease. (e-bay)
You can never have too many tools, especially torque wrenches.
Take your time, and enjoy the build

Hi welcome to the Supersport Club!!! I got mine just over a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed building it.
Tools wise you will need only really a basic tool kit. I got most of my bits from Halfords/Machinemart.
Best get your garage ready. Clean out, paint the walls white and get some floor paint. It makes the build process so much better when you can see what your doing!! I built mine in a single garage. Didn't find it too small at all. Just had to make sure I kept things tidy.
Read up as much as possible, download the build manual and read as many blogs as possible. It's an amazing experience and would build another next week if I could.

I have downloaded the build manual and am working my way through it and trying to relate it to other blogs I have found.
I have painted the walls of my garage, but have a slight damp problem so I can't finish the floor until it dries out - not sure when that will be!! The concrete floor in my garage floor isn't great so I am thinking of sealing it and putting down PVC tiles down instead of painting it. I don't think there is much more I can do for the time being.
I really like the white/black colours - I very nearly ordered that but my wife loves the green/yellow combination which I always wanted before I saw a couple of white/black sevens. I wanted her to feel like she had some involvement with the purchase as well so I was happy to give in.

Why thank you kind sir, that would be mine!The page entitled 'reflecting on the build' has a full list of all the tools I used when I built mine. I've even pointed out where some tools proved to be more than what was really required.

one eyed micky, what mats did you go with? Would you buy the same again?
I have a sample from mototile but I have recently come across endurance mats. The price difference is quite substantial so I thinking of going with the cheaper option.

You never know, it might arrive early. Mine did by best part of a month which rather caught me on the hop but it was great to get started.
You will gets loads of hints & tips but one of the most useful tools I borrowed from my dads workshop was a digital vernier gauge for quickly measuring the length/diameter of bolts etc. really cheap to buy now.

Closed cell eva foam as used for paths across lawns ,I,E,with holes found many suppliers on e bay just picked a good price 17 ft x9 ft came to around £70 about 4 years ago ,will be more now ,I lift indv tiles for jacking ,axle stand etc have asurf round thebay you will find a supplier , Machine Mart do them but a bit pricey HTH one eyed micky, what mats did you go with? I'm pretty sure I have a vernier gauge somewhere. I never thought of using it for this. You will gets loads of hints & tips but one of the most useful tools I borrowed from my dads workshop was a digital vernier gauge for quickly measuring the length/diameter of bolts etc. really cheap to buy now.

How critical is the rust protection? Do Caterham use dinitrol or equivalent on the factory built cars?Gassing Station | Caterham | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
