Genuine question about instrumentation

I've done quite a bit of track time in the past, both racing and for fun. I'm now rebuilding a HPC and am currently at the point to convert my dash to my liking and there is one thing that just keeps bogging my mind.
The tacho looks like a need to have thing in a sportscar, but do you really need it today??
In the early days,long time ago we didn't have shiftlights so you needed it for reference (besides hearing the revs).
Now you have those very nice sequential shiftlights, which I use in my XTR2, and to be honest, I never ever look at my tacho anymore. 3 sequential green leds for low/midrange revs, three blue for high range and 1 bright red for shiftpoint, the second red one for SHIFT NOW OR I SENT OUT A CONROD message.
The leds are always visible in your eyesight.
Any opinions on this why I should have a tacho in the seven?

I guess it's always nice to know what your engine is idling at?
A few months back I was gonna go seperates on the Ginetta but gave up as couldn't find a nice all matching set. In the end went for race logics dash 2 pro. Stack have a new dash coming out this year but I don't mind the old school analogue tachometer wrung digital inputs think that was used on a caterham?

It is useful for running in if you believe in that, and keeping the revs down when warming the car up.
Also on my fairly rare trips on track, I never look at the speedo, so the rev counter serves as a corner speed guide in a way.
I wouldn't be without one, but have never bothered with shift lights
