It's that time again, I have that itch that needs scratching, questions are what spec.....oh decisions, decisions...

I've built a pushrod and two HPCs, the last one had 262 bhp, but have to admit I'd taken it too far for what was for me predominately a road car, though the memories of travelling 85 miles in an hour at 5 am. down the Fosse to Castle Coombe still tingle ( no cameras then ....). So where to now?

Aim is for something with 200bhp (or a bit more!) but what base shall I start with?, I like tinkering and am happy to swap/upgrade engines....but one thing I know is that it'll be a lot like the last one, built just for me, one seat, no screen, no heater....now I just to find one ( secretly I still have a soft spot for HPCs, so long as it has wide track, LSD, 13 inch wheels etc...)

The search starts here....

The blue one at Woodcote is a very good and genuine HPC, with a Swindon 218 engine. It's also on the later chassis and was one of the last. I very nearly bought it myself.

I know the car, it's original owner replaced it with my quick HPC...small world. I would prefer it if I could find an unmolested one that I could put my own stamp on, and whilst I loved my HPCs, foibles and all, I could still be swayed into an R300/400, just trying to get a better handle on values, there are some tempting ones in the Classifieds but is nearly £25k for a 2002 R400 good value?
