Cut-down allen key required for a gearbox oil change (SV)?

As the title says really. Do I need to cut down an allen key do remove the gearbox oil fill plug in a Caterham 6-Speed box in an SV chassis? I am getting the use of a pit tomorrow, so underside access will be easy.

The allen key is cut down because there is a chassis tube by the plug so space is limited. Make sure that you can undo the filler plug before you drain. Allen key is cut using an angle grinder.

I know about the general need for the cut down allen key, but I was wondering if this is required for the SV. Perhaps the extra chassis width gives more space to get to the fill plug?

I just cut a small piece off the allen key. Once it is inserted in the plug, a ratchet ring spanner winds it out quite easily.
I still get oil down my arm though

So, gearbox oil change done. There's no chance of my hands and arms rusting now...

I'm not sure if it's in my head or not, but shifts feel easier and smoother.

There's definitely no extra space for the allen key with an SV chassis!

I tend to remove the gearbox lid and suck the oil out (or take the gearbox out and turn it upside down....)

What size allen key is it? I had a cut down version but in a recent move I have lost it. Need to get a new one cut. Why Caterham dont supply this with the kit, I will never understand.

On the 6 speed it is a 3/8 apparently. That's what I used.
You will probably end up using the off-cut, so don't throw it away.

Why people resist the metric system I will also never understand

I always removed the lis from the engine bay . Takes about 5 minutes to check & top up and avoids rolling on the floor etc.
