Have read several contradicting storries about the "too fast to race" ban on Sevens from the SCCA. Does anyone know the real story and dates of this ban?

Its a quite famous ban, so someone should know the real storry not only the myth.

"So successful in fact that in 1976 the RAC banned the Seven from racing in the UK because it won too much (the US banned it in the 60s for the same reason) leading Caterham boss Graham Nearn to produce T-shirts bearing the slogan ‘Too fast to race’."

And again in 2003

"Having thumped the opposition last year with the race version of the new Superlight R400, the British sportscar maker has been banned from contesting the Nurburgring 24 Hours, the German endurance classic next month."
