Anyone got any experience of Kumho V70 in soft compound. Trying to figure out the best camber for them - they seem to like a little less than the Avons. If anyone has any figures it would be appreciated. smile

From a sprinting point of view, I've run with 2.5 deg neg on softs and supersofts

It very much depends on tyre width and use.

I run 215 fronts and 235 rears and for sprints and hills run the fronts @ 0.5 deg neg as otherwise the outer 1/3rd of the tyre stays cold.

A 175 is happy anywhere from 1.5 to 3 deg neg.

Thanks guys, I'm running the 175 on the front and 215 on the rear. I was seeing quite a big variation in temp across the tyres (hot on the inside) so might reduce camber from the 2.5 I have on the front but will have to live with the standard ears for the time being.

That's interesting Simon. Just had a look at my tyres after the weekend at Curborough and there is pretty much even wear over 7/8ths of the tyre width, it's only the outside shoulders that have relatively little wear. Don't forget with the boat-anchor up front my car weighs a fair amount. I might give you a call to discuss tomorrow for further advice on car set-up.....

Just a bit of feedback one these tyres - traction was phenomenal and they worked over about three laps and took 1.5 seconds off the ZZR times on a 1.3 mile lap, but then got a bit squirmy after that. But they are a soft compound sprint tyre, so they do what they are meant to do. They seemed OK at 2.5 degrees of camber but would not want to add more. Also they worked best with a little less pressure (2-3 PSI) than I normally run on the ZZR.

Please forgive the bump but I am considering a swap to Kumho V70 on my e30 M3 BMW. Just wondered what the wet weather performance was like? Also wanted to know the cheapest UK supplier?

Its going to be very difficult for a 7 driver to tell you what the wet weather performance is like of the V70 on a BMW.

On a 7 I consider it to quite good. I would not change them on a wet days sprinting to a CR500 or Yoko 21 for instance as its only standing water that would need care.

Its all so subjective though.

I like them and give me lots of confidence even if there are technically faster tyres for any given condition. The confidence provides pace/speed. Likewise others may feel the opposite and prefer a different tyre.

By far the best supplier is Mel Williams. www.melwilliamstyres.com Entertaining also. :-) 07811 269500

Those are interesting comments, I seem to be able to go quicker on them than other tyres, but as you say, that might be more to do with confidence than anything else. I suspect their rolling resistance is higher than the Avons, but they do give a good solid feel. The Super-soft are particularly good in the wet although the tread pattern would not suggest so. Unfortunately they seem to be in short supply at the moment.
