So I got up this morning and decided that today was the day to buy another 7 -so i swallowed some brave pills, then took the plunge and finally bought a 7 that I've been eying up for a wee while .
Thanks to Tango and Culminator for their helpful advice and also the owner for his candour in answering a load of questions .
Have to say I'm really excited about getting back into a 7 after all these years -I've had all sorts of cars since my last 7 ,but nothing comes close to the elemental 7 experience-a Westie S8 ,TVR wedge and an S2 ,Z3M ,SL500 , 2 Mazda Eunos ,XKR .
I even dreamed about it last night -is that normal ?
Also now we also have a pucker Caterham dealership in Perth where i can get my car fettled ,which is handy
Even SWMBO seems to think it's not such a daft idea even though seven though i suspect she wont pax in it
Bizarrely the insurance with Flux is half the price of my XKR which I just sold
Cant wait -delivery will be in about two weeks time all being well .

"Pucker" is a good description of what people sometimes experience in a Seven.

Although you probably really meant "pukka" smile

Thanks for the steer Tango
Oops sorry about the spelling issues
Can you please tell me if the VX is a timing chain or cam belt -i'm just wondering if it might need changing after 25k miles ?
Also does it run on std 95 unleaded Ron -I know my xfow needed the Pb additive -i cant recall if my previous VXE did
Do they need higher octane fuel like V power or 99 Tesco bio ?

You need to get it tuned by Field Motorsport. I heard they can get 450bhp with ease from an XE....

Dunno haven't really given it any thought -can you think of a good reason why one would rejoin L7C unless its to reduce the insurance quote .
There were some rather odd characters who used patrol blatchat as I recall and I'm not sure I want to go there again to be open to that kind of ritual abuse .These were probably the sort of people who if you met them in the flesh would avoid eye contact .
Also I thought there was a certain type of snobbishness about blatchat which i didnt feel right .
I must confess that i quite enjoyed low flying -does one get access to a web version of LF nowadays -like an ipad version ?

Insurance discount, loads of other discounts, Local and national Club events (the International is next weekend), I think there's a good community of members in Scotland (North and South), and Low Flying (which has undergone some significant changes in the last few years. There isn't a web version of it, but there will shortly be access to all the previous articles and issues electronically).

Regarding Blatchat, I think most of the abusive characters have gone (and are on here now biggrin), but as with any forum you'll get all types - of course it's not compulsory to use BC cool

(oh, and we're not all marque snobs hehe)

Don't know what all the fuss is about BC, I find it very respectful and a hugely useful information resource. thumbup

That's a fair point as it was a only few yobs on BC that spoiled it .And you're right it def is an excellent resource .
I recall a retired dibble on there called Norman who went to France to run a guest house for UK blatters -I think he had a real nice steel engined roger King BDR HPC .
Anyway I need to dig out my Etymotic ear plugs [a BC bulk buy if i recall ] ,my 7 key fob ,my blatting specs [extra large dinner plates circa 1995] , my snood -in fact i think SMWBO once bought be me a 7 hip flask for Xmas even though i never drink spirits . I must also re read the Magnificent 7 book again another Xmas pressie .

Was that Norman that got banned for his defamatory (yobbish) comments? He wasn't Dibble - just wanted to be

I normally change them around 15000km. Don't want to risk any failure for Gbp45 for a belt.
If you give Kieran Smale a call from KSP, he got a very nice aluminium guide roller set for the engines with round tooth cambelts.

Definitively get rid of the Vbelt for the dyno. It already costed me a rebuilt of the engine.
They tend to come of at higher rpm.

Doclip - did you used to have a BDR HPC?

Yes as above it is definitely a cam belt and there are two types with regards to the pulley/tensioners where you have the 'early' ones and the later LN (Low Noise) ones.

Recommendation is 4 years or 40,000 miles. I know which comes round earlier for me!
Get the full kit with tensioner each time.

Cheers
SS

Oh and welcome fellow HPC owner - share a photo or two when you have one!

Thanks Cambuscat for the nice words -I don't think i'll bother with Blatchat this time around.
Are you planning to come to Machrihanish again this summer -if so it would be my pleasure to have you all in for some refreshments if you have the time and if there at the same time -I don't think i'll be taking my 7 there as i've got dogs, golf bats , SWMBO and other stuff to transport .
Shame because there are some epic roads for blatting as im sure you appreciate
Re the cambelt I just found out from the very helpful owner that the cambelt was done 2 years / 1k miles ago -so that should be fine i think meanwhile . He also mentioned that every year he replaced the sump baffle/foam/gasket and repacked the silencer .He always ran it on 98 RON so i reckon i'll just stick with that as well .
Also recomended I use the thicker semi-synth gloup ie 10/40 Magnatec -I actually bought some last year when it was going cheap at just a tenner for 4l from Asdas ,so that's handy .I'll look out for the next time its on special again.
