Does anyone know what type of key blank I need to have a spare ignition key made? The local key cutting place couldn't find one to match (fuel cap was no problem, standard Rover item).

Nope, he looked at all of those. With an extensive bit of googling I have a suspicion that its a British Leyland type key - just trying to narrow down the exact type.

Was it a Timpson place? I had one cut a month ago and he had the BL blank on the usual board of blanks

It wasn't, but that will be my next try....just thought if I could turn up and say it is an X then that would improve the chances of success....

The majority are British Leyland keys - I.e. allegro, metro etc. I think they originated from a Land Rover blank.

Went into Timpsons - guy brought out his big book of keys and it is indeed a Land Rover - blanks ordered, will update if it all works or not next week

Well either Land Rover keys don't work or Timpsons ordered the wrong ones......couldn't even get em in the barrel.

Have ordered some blanks off ebay which I think are correct - will update if it goes ok.

We have spares!!!

Took the failed ones back to Timpsons and the guy was relieved to see me, turns out the muppet who was on duty that day used the wrong blanks, the ones I had ordered were still sitting there and so they cut proper copies which work perfectly.

For reference the blanks have the code: JMA LFRO

Unfortunately in the meantime my ebay blanks turned up which also look like a perfect match (better than the JMA spares as they are plastic topped), so I'm left with 2 good blanks....oh well, maybe use them for the next car. Their code is Silca LF10P if anyone is looking for a match.

After a blank for a 1986 Caterham 1700 Supersprint. Have you still got your spares?
