Hi,

I'm thinking of replacing the entire dash of my CSR200. It's carbon fibre with the Stack display.

How difficult would this be?

I think I'd need to check with Caterham parts to see exactly what I need: different loom, some different sender/sensors and, of course, the instruments/gauges.

Does the ECU need to know about the different senders (e.g. oil pressure, temperature, speed) ?

Would anyone want to make me an offer for the Stack, carbon fibre, loom and sensors?

Sounds like a headache, why do you want to do it. Always wanted a Stack and narco dash

I can't offer advice on the swap, but I do prefer the old style dash myself.
However, it is probably worth considering that most prospective buyers would prefer the more modern dash,so you might be spending money to devalue your car.

Well, I prefer traditional dials because you can see everything at a glance, without having to push buttons to scroll through different displays. They also look more ... traditional.

I agree smile

They also have the advantage that if one dial packs up, generally the others still work and replacing one is a lot cheaper than a new digital dash.

Lots of people seem to love them though........

I've done (still am in the process) the same on my 96 HPC which was equipped with the Stack.
I found it almost impossible to replace them for the standard Caterham units because the people at Caterham just don't know, or are able to tell you what you need or what the pin locations on the gauges are.

I finally gave up on them and rebuilt to Stack 52mm gauges and a ST500. The st500 is the older version of the newer ST700, but without the extra sensor readout option.
The stack gauges come with cabling and sensors. Yes they are quite a bit more expensive but the sensors they use are most solid state if you go for the stepperunits.
Why am I still in the process? Because it takes ages to get something from Stack! That really sucks big time.

I do not understand why you would get rid of a Stack.

The alerts functions will save you from failures like oil pressure, battery charging etc.

Mine bought a charging error to my attention miles before it became a breakdown issue just this weekend going to Classic LM.

The ONLY issue with the Stack is that you either need a bigger steering wheel (280-290mm - which is too big) or a Momo 16c open wheel to be able to see all of the rev counter.

Madness. Are you swapping the 6 speed for a 5 speed too?

Bigger rear wheels are the solutuion for cruisng. Tried and tested on my car going to Le Mans to overcome the short gearing of a 3.92 diff. 4500rom at 85mph was lovely.

I do not understand...

Madness!

etc.

:-)

Well, perhaps. But Caterhams are a priori madness.

Firstly, it's only that I'm *thinking* about it.

Secondly, I prefer the looks of dials, gauges, knobs and levers. Part of the Caterham fun is the 50's look of the thing (otherwise, why would we put up with the ridiculous aerodynamics?).

Thirdly, analogue displays have certain advantages over digital.

Fourth, I don't like the way the rev counter (stepper motor) "jumps". It's like it only updates a couple of times a second :-(

I've got a ST700 I am slowly getting around to fitting. I really prefer the dial style gauges.

A seven is all personal taste and I am with you on this. The Stack may have technical advantages but I much prefer the look of the standard gauges and ease of reading.
