I'm going to need to get a bag to throw on the back of our Caterham for touring. Is there an accepted view as to which boot bag is better, the SoftBitsForSevens RE-Bag or the Thundersport Boot Bag, and if so why?

Our Caterham is an S3 fitted with the FIA roll-bar if this would affect the answer.

Cheers,

Are you a club member?
If so, you're only allowed to purchase from S*ft B*ts for S*v*ns, and even though the service is erratic at best you can only say good things about them too.

my wife got me this from thundersports - its superbly made. I stuffed two settee throws in and some hoody's to take the pic.
Its the mohair version. Havent tried it out yet but im well happy with it.
Might be a little bit expensive but she's worth it. clap thundersports clap

I was a bit worried as she didnt know ive got the fia roll bar. Its fits like a glove. (sv version) there's loads of room in it.

Ah, the angry brigade descends on yet another thread... The OP's asking if anyone has any experience of the two companies. If you haven't, yet want to start another schizophrenic rant against the L7C can I suggest you start another thread. Thanks.

Sorry mum, didn't realise this was your forum.
For what it's worth, I do have experience of one of the companies in question, a pretty poor experience all round as it happens.
Apparently, negative comment about them isn't allowed on BC though, and is cited as "going on" about the same old thing, despite those who've had an equally positive but opposite experience going on about it all the time without comment.
So it seems you can praise the well known hood manufacturer form Sussex til the cows come home, but can only criticise them once.
Edited to add: Thanks (in the same slightly patronising context)

I just had great service from Softbits for Sevens, despite my shower cap showing out of stock on the website they managed to get one to me in well under a week, and in time for Christmas . Happy.

I've got the Thundersport bag too and it's been perfect for our tours.
Looks like it's meant to be there and you can get a surprising amount of stuff in there!

Don't expect this or the SBFS one to be waterproof though. I wrap everything up in bin liners to keep it all dry.

I've got the Thundersport half hood, but have the SBFS tunnel bag, draft reducer, shower cap and low profile boot cover. Both companies have equally good quality goods, though Thundersport do have slightly faster delivery.

I had an original E bag from SB4S and updated it with the RE bag when it came out. Both were good although the RE bag design is much better. Neither were waterproof, so I use dry bags for packing inside.

One thought - you can just get the hood bag on top of the SB4S bags, but the taller design of the Thundersport one in the pics above make it look like that is not possible?

I too have the Rebag from SBF7 but have only ever used it once and as I'll be selling my 150 SV(FIA rollover bar) I'll be selling it if the OP is interested. The one time I did use it I found it to be invaluable

Oh come on now, can't the guy just get a simple answer to a simple question without turning this into another of "those" threads?

TheHoof says he has an S3... if the price is right, I might be interested in it...

Thundersports bag (vinyl) is fully waterproof. I've tested this aspect several times in some horrific downpours.

I've got the RE bag, bought it second hand off a club member. Used it last summer for a very wet weekend tour of Wales. We got loads in it and even managed to have the hood up for pretty much the whole weekend which fitted over the top of it no problem at all. We did use plastic bags to store stuff in though as our one is not lined although it rained that much that fhe roof barely came off the whole weekend.

Great product in my opinion and no regrets.

I have softbits stuff all good, no problems with what I have. I believe they are the original designers of the 1/2 hood, I also have a touring tunnel bag and 1/4 bags that fit either side of the roll bar.

As the Thundersports bag looks larger (deeper) than the SBFS bag, can you get the hood up with the Thundersports bag on, or would it be half hood only?

Yes, SBFS are the original designers of the half hood and boot bags, so I prefer to support them.
The 1/4 or corner bags that fit on the outsides of the roll bar sloping rear supports are great, and they are part of a complete luggage set.
No problems with service when I've used them, although if you have a question I gather the quickest way to resolve it is by phone.

That's not my experience at all. It leaks around the stiching when exposed to a lot of rain. After a full day of driving in the rain, our stuff would have been quite wet had I not wrapped everything first.

The vinyl itself is waterproof, but the stitching is where it is let down.
