I cannot find any mention of the spark plug part number in the user manual.

Does anyone know a ford or 3rd party part number?

Are there any 'fancy' plugs that make a difference?

Caterham specify NGK TR6AP (IIRC) but a common alternative is NGK BR7EFS which is what I happen to have in my Duratec. Don't bother with any 'fancy' plugs and the standard Ford Motorcraft ones are made for them by NGK, AFAIK.

Duratecs are normally fitted with a FOMOCO TR6AP13 plug. Other makes are available but can be quite expensive. If it's COP (and running OK) then I'd leave alone unless it's done a very high mileage. For higher states of tune, you can run a more conventional plug with a suitable temperature, but that might alter the starting characteristics.

Thanks All.

It's a 2012 and has only done ~5000miles. The only reason I was going to change the plugs was because it is listed in the 24 month service schedule.

It seems early to change them to me as well. I imagine that plug wear would be based on mileage more than time.

So the conventional wisdom would be to ignore the service schedule on this point?

You can take them out and look at them to tick the box, but be aware that they seat on a taper so should not be over tightened.

Understood. Of course the manual does not mention any torque figure for the spark plugs.

Is there a suggested torque figure?

Ford suggest 12 +-2 NM. Don't ask me the gap as I never found it out but new plugs come with around 1.1 mm which seems quite large.

Edit: Goolge says 1.3 mm

Like above, NGK BR7EFS - gave the most reliable starting. My car came with Denso Iridium IT24 which apparently the tuners like because it gives good numbers on the rollers, but I found it unreliable to get started with those.
