Caterhams and big feet- any help much appreciated
Discussion
Hi all, my father and I have been on a couple of Westfield drift days over the past couple of years. I noticed that Caterham are now doing the drift days at Silverstone and was wondering how similar pedal layout is, my father has size 15 feet (6"7 tall) and could only just fit in the Westfield but could use the pedals fine.
The only time he has driven a Caterham was around 12-15 years ago with Palmer motorsport, he struggled with the pedal layout. When he pressed the brake he also pressed the clutch and accelerator.
So do newer Caterhams had wider footwells or is it a lost cause?
Sorry if this is a really daft question, just thought this would be the best place to ask.
Thanks for any help.

I had a day in a roadsport sv last year and was worried about the same thing, I have size elevens and have had issues in other cars, mainly Japanese hatchbacks.... Was absolutely fine in the Caterham though. Just made sure I wore relatively narrow shoes (sketchers/ puma type trainers rather than running shoes if you see what I mean).

I presume the wide body Sevens have wider footwells?
I thought so, not sure if they are running the wide bodies on the day. For the westifeld days they ran a wide and narrow and the wide was far more comfortable. Il try and give them a ring this afternoon and ask.
Thanks for reply.

Im the same size as you and kept an old ragedy pair of fabric shoes with really thin soles just for driving. They got a few to many holes in and had to go!I believe caterham have a selection of both SV (wide body) and S3 cars on their drift days. Probably best to call and ask in advance though.
The problem is mostly down to the choice of footwear though. Some thin suede trainers where the sole is no wider than your foot are best. And preferably worn half a size too small so that the sole is actually narrower than your foot! This gives better clearance, but also allows your foot to feel the pedals on either side of the one you're pressing. This feedback allows you to work in a much tighter space, rather than clumsily pressing two pedals and not knowing you're doing it until its too late.
I have a pair of these:
