I'm in the market for something high spec and there really is not much about. Its got to be Superlite R performance or higher, the main problem is I am in N.Ireland so viewing, buying and getting home is a problem and a pricey one..................selling (some day) is worse as very few people even know what a Caterham is here so its normally got to go back across the water hence its got to be good value!

Back to the title.............does anyone know anything about this XE engined 1992 car? I think I would prefer an R500d with a screen and heater but it's not the price of this and this looks good though maybe a bit mad as a road car compared to my last R400D. What's it really worth though? Re panelled, rebuilt, lots of nice bits and a 280bhp XE.

What gearbox does it have? If it has a straight cut jobby I'll add that I considered a similar car some years ago, but having driven it, decided I couldnt live with the noise of the 'box. That car was ex race; is this the same? Again, I'd have had to fit softer springs for the road in that car too.

280bhp is a lot from an XE.

Is it a proven 280bhp or a claimed 280bhp?

Is it an ex racecar? And is it on carbs or injection? Any idea who built the engine? Price is on the high side; these VX engined cars are never worth as much as an equivalent K. But no doubts the owner spent every bit of that on the car.

Can you not buy from the UK? Turn it into a driving holiday?

I believe the car is/was an original HPC owned by a chap called Mark who owned the car for a number of years and had rebuilt it to a high standard. He then sold it to someone who ran a seven online parts company who spent a great deal making it a driving advert for his products, and rebuilt it again. Seen it in the flesh and it is a lovely looking car. Is it worth the money, difficult to say, depends on if you are only keeping it for a short time I suppose, it is certainly a lot of car for the money compared to a new Supersport at the same price. It will always have a limited market as any highly modified car will but think of the fun you will have.

I am guessing the online parts business you speak of is Seven Speed as the car is covered in carbon bits and a couple of their stickers.

There is close to zero market in N.Ireland for a Caterham never mind ine like that.
