Took my 7 out the other day and got a few hundred yards down the road before it conked out and wouldn't restart. Pressing the starter button only produces a click from the starter motor, I have tried a new battery but I still get the click. I have read about the mod to assist with K series starting but this has been done by a previous owner.

I am assuming that it is a starter motor issue but before I try and remove it has anyone got any other suggestions? It is a 2003 1.8 K

could be electrical, have you checked all the contact points, live to starter, started to engine block and earth from engine to chasis/battery (not sure on this model), make sure none are covered with oil etc?

There's quite a few things that contribute to the "K-Click", but as a temporary measure to get going, try sticking it in gear and rocking the car back and forth a couple of times before trying to restart.

Connect a jump lead from negative battery to a metal part of the engine, if it starts OK then your earth braid between battery and body or body and engine has failed

my temporary k-click work-around was to run a fly-lead from the solenoid up to near the positive battery terminal (making sure it couldn't accidentally touch). Then I would whip the bonnet off and touch the wire to the terminal and the started would activate.

When I got stuck on the m25 in stop go traffic and the engine wouldn't tick over I had to hop out, take off the bonnet and manually start the engine. Once I got to about 30 times, I got a bit pee'd off!

My previous 7 developed the K-Series click on Saturday night in the middle of Piccadilly Circus!!

Took a good 5 minutes for it to restart. Still a good memory though!
