Insurance cost

For a new R400, on a new policy, it's about right. With a bit of shopping around you may get it cheaper, but for the sake of a £100 here or there, I'd go with a company you trust.
Thanks, that makes sense. It just that it's a lot more than my 997S was so I thought I'd check.
Looks a bit steep. While not a R400, my year old Duratec comes in at less than £400 for 5000 miles (60yo, no track days, only driver – wife was on previous policy but the extra was small). The initial value of new cars tends to be the driver I believe. Shop around and consider joining the L7 Club; there is a list of half a dozen insurers who give a club discount of 10% minimum (one claims up to 40%!) but 15 is quoted by two companies.
My cheapest quote on my 1600k 140SS with me 28 years old Living in London, was from 'A plan' at around £200 per year but paid £260 with REIS as gave me 4 track days. even go a quote with the new 1800k 230BHP and was £370 with 4 track days.
Both with 4000 miles per year, i wouldnt expect a Caterham to be more than a 997 to insure. My caterham is half what a new BMW M4 is to insure

My premium would have been around that if it was only for me. Putting my son on the policy drives it up, plus the value which is north of £40K. Got it for £665 in the end, including 5 track days.

where do you live? that seems very expensive to me
Compared to what? Norfolk as it happens. It seems a little odd, being just about twice what I paid for my 997S, though my son wasnt named on that.
On the other hand the tax on the caterham is £300 less than the Porsche.......

L and W , 15 years
Perhaps its becasue of your experience with Caterhams? L-W were quite specific that experience is a key factor in the rate. NCD doesnt seem to count for much unless its on a Caterham. As this is the first one I've had it's expensive.Seems to go against what is the norm as far as automotive insurance is concerned but who knows?

Hi all. Just had a quote for my new R400 to be insured in my name and with my son as a named driver.
FC plus 5 track days,2000 miles per year SD and P. £750
I'm mid 60s, son is 32, we both have more than 5 years free from claims, fines etc.
How does that sound?
I'd check the track day cover - when I spoke to a number of insurance companies last year, track day cover was limited to the policy holder only and didn't include named drivers. FC plus 5 track days,2000 miles per year SD and P. £750
