How colour sensitive are Caterhams when it comes to resale? Are there any colours that are easy to sell and some very difficult (I'm lookiing at SL/SLR/R300/R400).

Some cars available in blue and black by they seem a dull colour for such a lairy car.

Some may prefer loud colours for safety reasons. Personally I would be looking for a loved car over purely the colour - Superlights in particular may have had many owners and used hard on track. Whilst I have no issue with that, I would expect there to be maintenance records to support.

You may be surprised how little a respray costs for a Caterham from a Cat friendly resprayer, even a wrapper. My cat was at a dealer in Bugatti blue but I really wanted cycle wings and the dealer did a great all in package for those fitted and a respray with stripe.
So if you see 'the' car at a dealer and it's not a colour you want it may be worth asking. Then you can get EXACTLY the colour you want.
The Wheeler Dealer programme mentioned Kawasaki green was the most popular colour for orders.
What strikes me at meets is the fantastic variety of colours though.

I've been quoted £2000 for a full respray. Not a massive amount but something I wouldn't get back on resale.

£2000 seems steep. Was it a cat specialist?

Mine was circa £1000 plus £250 for a stripe and nose band, and the fitting of cycle wings. It was a good job, inside engine bay was done so it was a full colour change.

Maybe it was a good deal as it was done by the dealer to help sell th car as a package, so you might say I could have negotiated harder on the initial price.

Will I get that money back? Hmmmm. Dunno. But in the meantime I'm driving a lovely looking freshened car in the colour I wanted.

So if you see a car a a dealer, you might be able to negotiate a good price, they will have trade contacts if they don't do in house.

My was done through Sevens and Classics.

I reckon repainting my SV220 has upped its value a bit.

The original yellow was a mess. It's now pearl white with three red bands in the Lotus SportsRacer dimensions.

Very similar to R500 but the stripes are paint not stick-on, and run across the bonnet louvres.

I saw yours Stridey, before and after, looked a lot better after it was done!

I got quoted £3000 for a full colour change, don't think they had ever done a Seven, was on about taking everything off and all the interior out everything! I don't think they wanted the job really! It can stay the colour it is!!

Thank you Upnor.

Actually, looking back, I'd actually be happy with the original Buggatti blue, but at the time I wanted a dark green (Connaught green) and yellow stripe (Inca Yellow from Triumph) for a very classic look.

I think its the nature of these cars that many colours look great. I love the fact that mine can look older while a car of similar age can look very new and up to date.

Sevens and Classics did a great job of the respray, sometimes you see the five rivets on the side where the clamshells fixed, but on mine they are invisible. Not sure who they used for the respray, but I'm very happy.

The Bugatti Blue was a bit of an odd colour for a Seven never seen another, mine is a odd colour Blue as well but a lot darker, I just don't like clamshells, funny how 30yrs ago my taste was the other way and I didn't like the cycles!

A tidy paint job means it would help to sell it quicker and should help to get nearer the asking price

Get any colour you want- the depreciation is so low you can afford to respray before you sell . Sevens can look great in unsuspected colours - my first was in Porsche Cherry Pearl, a colour I wouldn't ever have chosen if I had been speccing the car. It looked fabulous.

Seems most people go for yellow or green. Not many in this colour, Porsche rubystone red a la 964 RS or pink to you and me. Get a few positive responses about the cars colour.

Caterhams are the sort of cars that can stand "in your face" colours but there are limits.... That said, the 420R demonstrator I drove was in exactly that colour, so you are not alone in liking it. It certainly grabs your attention.
