Anyone know this car?
Discussion
Hi all.
Long time lurker on PH, new poster, so hope I am OK asking about this car?
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/c...
Just wondering if anyone knows the car, or if anyone has any thoughts on it? I have had very good communication from Greg at Bookatrack, including sending me some more detailed photographs.
A little background, I've had the idea of getting a Caterham for a couple of years now. My partner surprised me with a days hire from Highland Caterham Hire last summer for my birthday. I think she thought it might get the urge out of my system, but despite it raining for nearly the whole day, I just wanted one even more. I've been finding it a little difficult to find my ideal configuration, an SV without lowered floors, I think this is only the second one I've found. We did test drive an S3, but found it a little tight.
I've found the PH Caterham forum to be a great source of information, and any advice would be appreciated.
A final thought, SWMBO seems to think at 47 years old, I'm a bit too old for such a car.
Thanks - David.

None of this will help but- I have an S3, it is alittle tight but it's supposed to be, the above car looks nice though.Long time lurker on PH, new poster, so hope I am OK asking about this car?

At 47 I would assume (all stereotypes correctly applied) that you are probably the average age of a Caterham owner and an ideal age to buy and enjoy one :-)
Well pretty much all dealer used caterhams look too much money to me! Looks a nice car generally.
I'm not a fan of the 16" wheels for handling purposes, I would go for 13s personally.
I just think it needs to be 6 speed. So much nicer. Personal taste though
And did the 1600ss make 140 bhp? I don't recall so. In fact it doesn't say it's a supersport. Needs checking.
Widetrack is good.
I'd be wanting big brakes if I was using it on track. Probably fine on the road though.
I also prefer S3 not SV, but that's personal taste too.

On the age thing. A lot of people seem to have bought them as 50th birthday present, me included.
When looking for one I got chatting to a lovely chap who mentioned he was 70... And he was selling his Seven. I asked if that was because he was finding it a bit much, he said no, he was buying a faster one to keep up with his mates!
Remember, youth is wasted on the young.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Age isn't really an issue, but a little reassuring I won't be the oldest Caterham driver out there.
As for the S3 vs SV debate. I didn't really have an issue with the S3, but my better half found it quite a tight fit. I'm not sure how much I should take this into account as even though she's a bit of a petrol head, I'm not sure how often she'd come out in the car. My suggestions of tours into Europe when I finally get one were swiftly shot down.
My hunt continues, and I might try to get down to see the SV I initially inquired about when I get some time. It's a bit of a drive from Edinburgh.
Thanks again - David.

On a related but off-topic note, I had to change the pax seat I had fitted to another brand of sportscar as it was rather too tight for Mrs Bert's child-bearing hips (although fine for my hips and didn't impinge on my middle-aged-spread at all)
I think you have to be a relatively hardy other-half to go touring Europe in a 7 though. That means OP, that in reality it'll only be you in it. Go for what suits you best!
