Does anyone know this R500D in Cat South
Discussion
I have just seen this and it's making me think silly thoughts...............
http://uk.caterhamcars.com/pre-owned/1740-superlig...
The mileage is stated as 34435.............can't be right can it! The car looks immaculate but it does state that it's had a full rebuild.
I have been close to buying an R500D manual twice now. The first time I was set to fly over to Caterham South and I was told I was loosing my job (which I still am but have a new one lined up) and the second time when I asked the seller to send me pictures of the cars suspension it looked like it had been part of the Titanic!
It has to be a really good car and it has to be a sensible price, well, no Caterham is a sensible price IMO but that's another thread!
Maybe this is the car?

I just did a reg. check and it came up that the car used to be green and was R500WAM.
I had already seen that car on the R500 register as the car is plaque 35 but thought it was a mistake when I saw 35 was green.
Hhhmmmmmmm, seems like this car has some history to it!!!
The picture on the register is at the Ring!

Yep that mileage is on the high side for a 2009 Caterham.
Why do you suspect the car has 'history'? A full rebuild is fairly common in the Caterham world and a respray would often form part of that. My 2008 car has been resprayed (although in exactly the same colour) to keep it looking fresh, doesn't mean its hiding anything.
I think you'll struggle to find a Caterham over 20,000 miles that hasn't seen some paint at one time or another. Even if its just the wings.
I'm sure somebody will be along soon that knows this car.

A full rebuild on a car less than 10 years old? Only if it's been heavily tracked or driven in the salt. I'd immediately suspect the former if I looked at a car under 10 years old that had had a rebuild/skin/paint. Is your 2008 car a 5 speed Roadsport by any chance? Why do you suspect the car has 'history'? A full rebuild is fairly common in the Caterham world and a respray would often form part of that. A car under 10 years old - yes a rebuild is suspicious. But a rebuild of a car with 34k miles is not. I'd say that’s exactly the time when most owners are starting to consider that wear & tear is significant enough to warrant a rebuild.
Not sure that your question is relevant, but I think I know what you're implying with it. And no, it’s a Superlight and has a 6 speed for what it’s worth. The car had its rear wings and side skins sprayed by the dealer at 11k miles before it was advertised. My point is that evidence of a respray on a Caterham is normal and shouldn't set off the same alarm bells that it would when looking at any other type of car.

Fair comment - I must've missed the fact your's had covered those miles. My first 7 a SS - had covered 37000 miles when I sold it and despite it being kept in very good condition was stsrting to bubble where sideskin met chassis, powdercoating was flaking underneath and suspension could have done with a repaint. Not sure that your question is relevant, but I think I know what you're implying with it.
