Hi everyone,

I'm going to be ordering my first ever Caterham over the next few weeks. I'm pretty settled on most of the spec but can't decide about the tool kit. Sure the blue box with the logo on it looks lovely but I can't help but feel the price of £475 is high.
For all you self builders out there could you please let me know if you went with the Caterham tool kit. If so was it value for money? If not what tools should I be looking to buy separately in order to get the car on the road?

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave

I knew I had seen this somewhere...

I am sure that you might find a Caterham spanner costs a lot more than the same can be bought elsewhere. Apart from the big 41mm socket, many people take advantage of the regular Halfords deals for their professional spanner sets etc.

Best of luck with the build.

Dont be sucked in by the branding. Its just a fairly cheap Draper chest with stickers on it.

If you dont have any tools at all then this could be a good set to buy and works out at acceptable value. Individual tools are surprisingly expensive if you add up the cost of the individual items. Perhaps do that here to see the true cost of the kit.

If like most people you have a selection of tools already then you'll probably be better off figuring out what you're missing and just buying those.

And bear in mind that, if you're a member of the L7C there's a good chance you could borrow some of the tools you'll hardly ever need after the build.

I ended up getting the draper toolkit thrown in when I bought mine a few years ago. The branded box is, as has been suggested, very basic but the tools themselves are of a good quality. Had they not been 'free' I reckon I'd have sourced what I needed from elsewhere.
