I'm not sure I'd choose this over a 310 for a little more money. But they are only making a limited number, and I'm sure they'll sell them all.

Now that is super nice. I'll take one and park it in the garage next to my http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/morgan/44-1600...
I don't have a Morgan either....yet

As I prefer the ointment to the fly I'll admit to finding it delightful . My only cavil is with the turbo engine - I have always thought the 160 would be even nicer with a high revving 1 litre N/A screamer.
But what did we expect Caterham to do ? The 310bhp in quickest model is about enough surely and history (not to mention common sense) shows us that the firm should stick to variations on a Seven theme.

Agreed the asking price seems a bit steep, but most people are happy to pay a premium for a limited edition model.
And as a fully specced 160s with paint and full weather equipment is pretty close to £25k, it's not that much of a premium.
As it was so long ago, I can't remember the cost of optional Clam Shell wings, but I seem to recall they were not a cheap option with paint, so that's another part of the additional cost too.
As most people have commented al lot of them will mostly likely get sold to Japansese customers, so it won't be long until they all get sold, so the price point seems to be bang on.
I've only seen a couple of the colours so far, would really like to see the other colours on some cars, so we can get a better aprecation of the other colours on an actual car.

It's a clever idea when one thinks about it. Every 911 backdater is ripping out the impact bumper interiors and fitting dogtooth and cocomats and charging a premium too. Morgan's 3 wheeler is the thick end of £40k specced. And I'm sure Caterham buyers will spec some of these goodies in their cars too.
IMHO it looks absolutely superb. Caterham have really nailed it this time.
I'm surprised (in a good way) that they've made this move because the trend in recent years has been for new Caterhams to become progressively uglier. It's reassuring to know that there's still someone in the company who has taste.
Unfortunately, as has already been pointed out, the price is ludicrous. It would be amusing to ask Caterham for a breakdown of the cost of the individual components to see how they attempt to justify the 9k markup over a standard factory built 160 (which is itself overpriced).
However, there is nothing to stop someone from buying a regular 7 and then modifying it themselves to look more like a Sprint.
In particular, I think almost any 7 would benefit from copying the Sprint's rear light arrangement. That would be a pretty cheap and easy modification to make. I can't understand why it's taken over 40 years for Caterham to finally produce a model that doesn't use those awful rectangular trailer lights.

I'm actually surprised that they included the clamshell wings because I've heard from several sources (including a Caterham salesman) that they're no longer IVA test compliant.
However, if that's not actually true, then it begs the question of why Caterham hasn't offered clamshell wings as an option on new cars for quite a long time.

Bought one today! Don't usually like Caterhams, but this just tickled my wotsit.
Delivery April.....
Geezer reckoned they will sell out very soon, lots of orders taken at the Revival. Most "going into collections". Bloody waste. Mine will be ragged and tracked.

Great to hear that a PH bloke has ordered one, and that you will use it for proper hooning too!
What colour did you go for?
I'm sure we would all also like to know what the options were on the price list too, if you can share?
Can't wait to see pictures of your car,,and others when they start getting delivered next year, enjoy the wait, it's agonising believe me!

I think that'll read 'put up for sale when I realise I bought the wrong version to track and rag'
But it would seem it'll find a buyer in Japan and I'm sure Caterham Cars will buy it back.
We once owned a Supersport with flared wings. It was most disconcerting when I took it to Elvington and found there was zero feel at the front end above 90 mph. It floated about like a dinghy in a storm.
The old clams canard returns...Funny how my quaint little clamshelled Seven with VVC managed to lap perfectly fine , and at a max of a lot more than 90mph on some tracks .Even odder is how so many races have been won by Sevens with clams. My current car has cycle wings and I have noticed no difference at all at speed- it doesn't try to take off either.
Aren't they different things? I agree about track, but I bet it's fun. But b road thrashing? Looks great for that!

Surely Caterham make far more suitable cars for track days or B road thrashing.
I would have thought this is a car for a Sunday morning drive to the coast, or visiting a National Trust property. Arrive in style, with a big smile.
