Hi all,

This may sound rediculous but I have an older imperial Caterham and have gradually updated it over the last few years. One on the additions is a set of 'academy' wheels. The car originally had the 5 spoke caterham wheels and used the nuts shown below. I have had some rumbling and the nuts are always loose! Does anyone have a picture of the nuts they use with these wheels? And are they imperial or metric?

Any help is massively appreciated.

Thanks
Ed.

Mine's a '93 imperial chassis and I use the following from caterham parts on my 8-spokes.

Wheel nut ref: 30W008A

Washer ref: 30W009A

Brilliant, thank you very much!

I'll have a word with Caterham and use those part numbers.

Thank you very much.

I had a chat with Caterham and they said the nuts were ok, not what they would advise but were suitable for that wheel.

Has anyone else fitted these wheels to an imperial chassis'd car?

It's worth having a close look at the wheel bolt hole to see if the angles match. Some wheels have steel inserts, and some don't, but any damage would suggest the wrong nuts.

But one reason for wheel nuts to loosen is that they have been over torqued in the past. If the studs have been stretched beyond their elastic length, then they will yield, or stretch, a little more every time you tighten them. The only fix is to replace them.

Hi,

thanks you for that, I hadn't thought of the stud stretching...

Nuts loosening is often a sign of something wrong with the studs such as being over tightened.

Not on a caterham, but have seen issues with the centre pin (stud) pulling through the hub eek.

Thanks for that, we have inspected the nuts and wheels and cant see anything untoward.

I'm thinking the next move is the studs...
