My car (K Series R400)has been sat in the garage all winter with no starter motor.
Replaced today but when I turn the cut-off switch and starter switch on but the car is completely dead. No power to fuel pump or dashboard. Battery is fine.
I have checked and bypassed cut-off switch, all fuses checked but there is still no power. I think the relays are ok but only checked by swapping.
Car has no imobiliser or (I think) inertia switch. Completely stumped. Could it be the MFRU or ECU? Is there another fuse or relay somewhere?
Any help appreciated or what to test. I just don't understand why there is no power to the start switch when it should be connected direct through battery. Very frustrated!

Does sound like the earth is ruined post starter motor install. You sure you wired it correctly?
Inertia switch on my R400 was that mounted black switch left of the catch tank, can't tell from the photo if that's something else on yours or not. As you say though, should just do the fuel pump but sounds like you have a different issue.

Thanks for all the help. Keep it coming!
I don't know what that is next to the catch tank. It's solid and has 3 wires going to it.
If the starter was badly wired wouldn't the dash still work?
Just to check I changed the wiring round on the starter and as soon as I turned the master switch it turned so assume it's right.
Think I'll have to take the scuttle off next weekend and really go to town.

there should be an earth from the engine block to bodywork, frequently this is by the o/s engine mount. To test, connect a jump lead from metal part of engine to a good earth on the bodywork and see if everything works
the item next to the catch tank is the inertia switch, if you press the rubber end and nothing happens then it's fine, if it clicks then it was tripped
