I am trying to decide on a colour for my new car and I know that the factory says that they will paint metallic and pearlescent paint colours.

My question is can they do a good job on more unusual complex paints like McLaren Volcano orange, or Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Sunrise Orange?

Has anyone had the Caterham factory do a complex paint such as these with sucess?

As I understand it, Caterham don't paint in-house and the cars are painted at a specialist (the name of whom I've forgotten) but the quality of work has always been good when I have used them. But these things are relative and not everyone's standards are the same.

I had my own paint scheme done by CC on mine- excellent job, But do , do , do get the front of the rear wings Armourfended unless you like a Jackson Pollack stippling by stone chip effect

You can have your car painted any colour you wish, a factory colour is Dodge Viper blue and silver Mercedes silver stripe or you could ask for a Lambo Orange there are lots of non standard colours that have been used

But do expect paint chips........... they all get them

Rear wheel arch. Above stone protection . You can get film protection.

Also crazing can occur from underside of arches. People use underseal to reduce this effect.

Nose cone susceptible too, difficult to wrap due to curves.

Turning left or right the gravel gets thrown up the sides.....as Len Unwin once said to me.....'throw a handful of stones at it then just drive and enjoy it' smile

I have had viper blue and two CSR's in plasma blue and excellent paintwork by CC. Re the paint protection definitely have it done, it is a no brainer. Armourfend is no longer available as far as I know but in any case, the protection to go for is state of the art Xpel which is self healing.

http://www.xpel.com/

It will obviously not self heal after a major impact but it will smooth itself out after minor impacts from grit and surface dressing aggregates. It is sold in kits, I had the full kit fitted, which is side protection, front section of nose cone, front section of cycle wings and the popular front section of rear wings. The vulnerable area is still the section between the stone guards and the edge of the rear wings. I do wish CC would fit a stone guard that protected the full width of the rear wings, I think someone at Millwood makes such a product out of c/f.
