Lotus 7s were built, by Lotus, of course, in four distinct versions, the Series 1,2, 3 and 4. When Caterham acquired the rights to build 7s, they initially produced a small number of 4s but due to difficulty in sourcing major components, reverted to the earlier Lotus Series 3 version.

Up until the 1990s, all 7s produced by Caterham were evolved from the Lotus Series 3, including versions fitted with the Rover K engine.

Since the 1990s, various chassis evolutions have been produced which have moved the design away from the Series 3 - although the basic concept has never changed.

Your academy car will be an S3 metric chassis given its a 2015 car. It will also have a Ford Sigma engine I.e not a K series which is the older rover engine that Cateham no longer supply.
