Replacing rear shock absorbers

Hi all,

I would like to help a friend replace his rear shocks, do you know where from to best access the top mount of the rear shock?
Do i have to remove the rear bulkhead carpet to access the top mounting bolt?

All you have to do is fold back the top corner of the carpet to access the upper bolt holding the shock in place.

On my '93 de dion chassis the top damper bolt is accessed through a hole in the aluminium boot turret. Remove the blanking grommet to access a UNF caphead bolt 1/2" x 2 1/2".

I am replacing my rear dampers as well. Changing from Bilstein to Nitrons (as a wide track conversion). But now I need to make some modifications, as Nitrons are not going to be bolted through like Bilsteins.
Does anybody know, if there are manufacturers who make such parts or do I need to fabricate those by myself?

I did the same conversion including the wide track and didn't have to do any modifications at all.
They all use the same fixing points but will obviously need setting up once complete
Assuming you have bought them from Simon at Meteor? If so give him a ring as he's extremely knowledgable

Well,

Some modifications are needed as the rear dampers (Nitrons) are different to Bilsteins, from the top. Bilsteins are bolted through chassis, but Nitrons have just a hole on a top. I´ve been told that with Nitrons you got to have specific mounting parts in order to mount them.

My Nitrons (from Meteor) were a straight swap for the old Bilsteins.

I think Miles is trying to say that he has the earlier stud type top mount which is vertical up through the chassis.

They should have been supplied with the Nitron Clevis pin adapter.
