What engine does my Caterham have?

How can i find out which engine is in my Caterham.
I know its a k series but need to know if its a 1.8 or a 1.6.

AIUI:

1.6 has a stroke of 79mm.
1.8 has a stroke of 89.3mm.

... So the easy way to be definite would seem to be a dial gauge down the spark plug hole and measure the distance between TDC and BDC?

Check the engine serial number.
I've read somewhere it's as simple as the first three digits being 14K, 16K or 18K according to capacity.
Being a Crossflow driver I only have to worry about O (oily) or VO (very oily)

Hi engine number has nothing which could say whether it's 1.6 or 1 8.
I'll tell my mechanic to check the bore.

Bore is 80mm on both the 1600 and the 1800.

Check the stroke, not the bore, checking the bore would be more of a challenge.

The engine number should be on the engine lower flange on the starter motor exhaust side just below the starter. It should have been transferred from its normal home further up the block where the block is modified to clear the starter, it should start 14K,16K or 18K.
