New Caterham owner
Discussion
Hi folks, been lurking for a while now and thought it was time to say hello. I bought a new (factory built) 420r a few months ago, having built my first Super Seven in 1992 starting life with a 1700 xflow, then went to an all steel 1700 xflow. I ended up with the Zetec 2L which was great! 80,000mls and 14 years later I sold it. I now run the new one with the Caterham carbon aeroscreen and would never go back to full screen and doors.
We have just come back from a camping trip to Switzerland and the French alps after three weeks and yes, we took our own camping gear in the Seven. Two 100ltr dry bags, one in the boot and the other one tied to the roll over bar. The weather was very kind to us, around 25-30c with the passes quite empty.
Absolutely loving the 420!
Glitches so far: Tick over at cold start (read about it but not a problem)
Fuel gauge waste of time
Wish the ZZs's would last longer, but hey, they are bloody good!
That's it so far.

The 420 is much more responsive than the Zetec. My old one was only 165bhp but this thing is on a whole new level! I tried the 620s as I really wanted the 620 but I wouldn't be able to do the touring I wanted to do, plus it's just too bloody mental for the road. I spun the rears on a dry day at 70 in third!
Which one did you go for?
