Good day gents,

Hope you are all staying safe.
I am an owner of a Caterham Super Sprint 1700 with an SPR006 performance kit.

The car was built in 1992, and has only covered 14,000 miles.
Its your typical aluminum & black color. Similar to this one
https://cdn.dealeraccelerate.com/hillbank/1/426/10...
(currently fitted with cycle wings - but looking to switch to the big wings again at a later stage)

I think I had enough with the aluminium always looking dirty / scruffy.
Hence I am going to give it a paintjob.

Now that is not a really easy job for me as I am not the most decisive person.

I am thinking to go for:
Porsche's graphite blue (I think it could look great but not 100% sure, I love the color)
In a way its similar to Nardo Grey but more dark and more blue - what do you think would it suit a classic Caterham?

Second choice is
Caterham (stole it from Porsche I guess) - Riviera blue - Smurf color
Think it can look interesting with the chrome
https://www.caterhamcars.com/de/in-stock/model?id=...

Third choise is a silver or grey.
Narrowing it down to Caterham's "Dark Silver" or Aston Martin's Ceramic Grey metallic (I had it in on my Vantage S SP10 and I found it to be an epic color to be honest)

Yellow I think looks stunning on a Caterham with the chrome, but I am not man enough I think...
Any other color suggestions?

What do you guys think?

My R400 is Riviera Blue with white decals.

When I ordered my kit in 2014, as I recall, Riviera had only been used on a few 620s and R500s, usually with orange decals.

I felt the orange was a clash with the blue and went for white. I think it was the first RB/White they’d done.

The main reason for my choice was that I wanted a stand out colour on the road. There are several other colours in the standard range and, of course others that could be used but at the time RB, although more expensive than standard colours wasn’t as much as some custom colours.

Caterham didn’t really steal it, as far as I’m aware, they always referred to it as a Porsche colour.

I still like it.

Just my opinion so tell me to get lost if required biggrin

I think your first choice looks stunning on the 911 but may not translate to looking so good on a 7 as not all colours do. It might be worth seeing if you can get something close to it on the online configurator to give you an idea.

I also agree with the others that Riviera Blue blue looks great. I saw a new 7 at Williams Autos near Bristol a few months back and was really impressed.

Finally, I have a yellow 7 biggrin Mine is Renault Liquid Yellow which is a pearlescent yellow and is not exactly subtle! I love it though and it looks stunning to my eyes, especially in the sun. Bright colours are safer than darker shades like grey and black but I accept not to everyone’s taste. That said you can always add a bright bonnet stripe to a dark colour to aid in being more visible to other road users.

All I will say is when you have chosen your colour, get Tony Whiting at TSK to paint it. No-one does them better!

Cheers

Thank you very much for your replies.
The car is in Greece and we certainly do not have many Caterhams over here!!

My top 1-2 choices are now:

Aston Racing Green Metallic

Graphite blue
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iND8c30_VqY&fe...

Third choise is the Riviera blue...
Looks epic on the new cars, not sure if it will look as good on my older detailed with chrome car.

Aston Racing Green Metallic could look good?

These are two photos of my car first as it was - black and the dark silver you referred to which I thought looked pretty good, and didn't require the polishing ally would have, and as it is currently in Porsche grey-black with a Mercedes bright silver stripe.

LE07 Looks great both ways.
Love the wheels too.

I am thinking of going with Aston's color...
Looks classy and I do not own a Green car.

Couple of pics of my car with the KN (Snowflake 14") and Minilite 13"

I find it a great colour combination and selected mine to be like so 30years ago. Still find it the best. How heavier are these kn wheels in comparison to the 13 inch Minilite combo. They are lovely..

I've actually just gone the other way - from a painted body, back to a bare ally one...
Rather than 'polish' the ally, I'm using 3M pads (Red initially, and then White for the final finish) to have a light 'brushed' finish, and then sealed with 'coloured' wax polish. The wax is applied with the White 3M pads.

Mine was meant to be heading over to Tony for a respray/rebuild before covid hit!

I was going for Porsche Lava Orange (the 991 GT3 RS color).

Looks nice. In your original post you mentioned that you were thinking of moving to flared arches instead of cycle wing. I'd think twice about that as:-

Cycle wings look nicer IMO
Fitting flared arches is a bit of a faff
Flared arches provide a bit of lift at the front end at speed

Just my 2p's worth, of course.
