I have watched this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=501qwlWx7m0) and I'm now a bit worried about the gear box in the Caterham 170. For me, the steering and the gear box feel are very important aspects in a car. I know this video is about the 160, not the 170, so I'm not sure if both models share the same transmision and the same problems that guy mentioned. He says that second and forth feel very bad, like a van gearbox, very imprecisse. He also says that the gear ratio is quite wrong. Can you confirm any of this? Thank you.
That YouTuber is an idiot, dont like his videos at all. I knew it was going to be him before I even went to that link. Hes like a TG presenter from the 90s. In one video of a 420R he didnt like that gearbox either and moaned about driving on a motorway so that says a lot about him.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm still worried, however, knowing that the 170's gear box comes from a Suzuki minivan, which is not supposed to be a very sporty vehicle.Edited by Swikes7 on Thursday 26th February 13:31
I drive a 160 which has the same gearbox, and the feel of the box is fine especially when I added the 170 gear selector mod,
Gear ratios are a bit crap , you’ll be in 3rd at 40 mph, but most driving is 3rd to 4th, with 5th for motorways
Last caterham had a 5 speed with 220bhp duratec. And that box was dream but you still never used 1st or 5th
