Looking for history on W553WKH and R500XPR both for sale at CC south. I believe thay are number 9 and 14. I'm going down to see them soon and would like to arrive prepared. They are typically top dollar, is the extra worth paying over private, ie do they routinely visit Minister for a refresh or thorough check. Best I phone Minister perhaps and ask?

check the mileage of the car - the engines may not need a refresh. tI would expect a massive service history file if the car's been kept in fine fettle, unless they've got ultra low milage and haven't ventured far from the garage? Any refresh work would be documented in here, unless someone went for a cash job!

Thanks for the feedback,
Mileage is 8000 to 11000. The last one I looked at let go at 12000 in a very big way and that's what worries me. I need to speak to Caterham really I guess, but I was wondering what they have been like in the past when selling cars at or around the recommended refresh mileage? The history would be good to have as from what I understand and have read in the archives on Blatchat level of track use is very important for obvious reasons. Anyone know the previous owners etc...If the 8000 mileage car looks good, has been well cared for I may be convinced, if it's got some gravel rash, several owners and no refresh I think I'll forget it. I could save the extra, go private and still have change for a refresh anyway?? Is there much difference between early and late cars, I see that the engine bay on one is powder coated and not on the other?

Hi Maybe

How did your trip to CC go? R500 XPR is actually my car, currently there on SOR. I bought it from Caterham back in Sept 2006, and had the car completely rebuilt, paintwork stripped (was originally Kingfisher Blue with an orange stripe) and repainted in custom Lotus Solar Yellow (the only Superlight RXX in this colour as far as I'm aware, as most R500s I have seen are in aztec orange, mango or caterham yellow, which are caterham standard colours). I have covered less than 1000 miles in the time I have owned it, and these miles are all road, no track use whatsoever (I bought it as a road car not a track car) Kept permanently in a garage and not been used in the wet. The guys at Caterham should of shown you a extremely comprehensive service history included refreshes by Minister.
If you have any further questions on the car, you can mail me offline

Tim
