Caterham Inertia reel seatbelts
Discussion
I left the inertia belt side in place at the top and bottom with the harness also fitted to the bottom.
I removed the buckle clip side and replaced with the harness but only because of time.
I think you could fit both but you might find their movement restricted a bit - dont think thats a big deal.
Also thing you may need longer bolts and some additional spaces and washers.

Apart from being legal I would not feel safe in a 7 with just inertias.
Perhaps if there were two acting as a cross belt over both shoulders.
In an accident there is just not enough room in a 7 for the type of movement your upper & lower body goes though when 'restrained' by an inertia belt. You will hit something nasty & hard.
That said I happily drove my MGA with no belts at all but felt safer once I'd fitted a 3 point belt as was fitted to a few of them for some markets...

Unfortunately the government require all modern cars to have seatbelts fitted, otherwise I'd have saved £120 on the inertias, and a lot of aggro fitting them. That is of course after binning the crap harnesses, and driven the car without belts, just like I do in my original Lotus 7
Thankfully gov't doesn't require a roll bar or Cage so mine joined the Harnesses and the plumbed in fire extinguisher in the bin

Why would you not want to wear some sort of seatbelt or harness. Have you seen what happens to people who crash without them?
Caterham do, or did, harnesses with a single clip, much like an inertia clip, fastened across belly, like race harness.
I replaced the more ‘racy’ four point race harness with this as it’s so much easier and less faff and easier for passengers too. Uses the harness mounts.
The only reason to get inertia belts over these that I can see is for older cars to reach handbrake, if you ever need to while strapped in.
