Hadn't actually noticed we have a Mustang specific sub-forum here but I'm delighted to have found it now that I finally have my dream car (2018 facelift convertible V8 biggrin )

As I intend to likely keep the car for a very long time, what are people's thoughts on rustproofing? Lanoguard seems easy, but if it needs re-doing each year then the cost will soon mount up, is it better to look at something like Dinitrol or Waxoyl as an "apply and forget" solution?

The main rust issue with 2015+ mustangs is galvanic corrosion. The front wings and bonnet are aluminium, but Ford, in their wisdom (lack of) used steel fasteners. The best solution is to replace these with aluminium nuts and bolts before galvanism sets in. Once galvanic corrosion has started it is not possible to totally eliminate it. Ford body warranty has taken a couple of routes to fix this, simple rubbing back, filling and painting only lasts a couple of years. Panel replacement only lasts around 8 years because Ford body shops refit using steel fasteners

I keep hearing horror stories about the wings and bonnet going rusty on these.

Yes mine apparently had galvanic corrosion on the bonnet fixed before I bought it, I also saw one for sale that still had active corrosion on the bonnet albeit was nowhere near the fixings, I've read that they actually get some tiny amounts of contamination in the factory and that it sits there under the paint for years before eventually breaking through.

No doubt it'll be an issue that I need to face at some stage in my ownership as they all get it apparently.

I have a 2017, the wings have been painted once a couple of years ago but now need done again, there is now also corrosion on the rear edge of the bonnet in a couple of places. None near the fasteners as far as I’m aware. I am considering changing the full front end to the GT350 style wings and bonnet (fibreglass) which would eliminate the issue but I’m concerned about fitment, and it’s not a cheap solution.
