Sorry to hear that, is it the YLOD (Yellow Light of Death) issue? I feel for you, its happened to me twice ! The main cause seems to be over heating of the unit - I've had mine repaired twice and it's showing signs of doing it again.

You have a few options...

1. Send it to Sony
- They will give you a new one if your in warranty
- Repair your one, they will wipe your HD (roughly £120 I think)
- Send you another refurb'd PS3 (roughly £120 I think)

2. Get it repaired, some PC repair shops have started doing this, I paid £60 - but these places don't give you much of a warranty, mine was only 30 days !

3. If your feeling bold, do a search on the web for YLOD, lots of guides (and free videos) on how to do it yourself !

Hope that helps !

You cannot permantly repair a YLOD PS3 if its an overheating issue, no shop can do this. At most they last 6 months to a year when "fixed". If it's in warranty (I presume yours is a large one, so probably not) Sony will replace it free. If not in Warranty just buy a new one, don't waste your money on a fix.

I just bought an upgrade HD for my fat, backed up the old one, swapped over, restored, switched on...YLOD frown

I feel for you.

There's apparently no way for a PC to read a PS HD either, so you were going to lose everything whatever way you did it. They always reformat if you swap from a fat to a slim.

The biggest pisstake is that it spends half its time talking to the server yet you cant download a list of your cars from it if you lose your save file.

Thanks Jon.

I could really do with a tuned Renault 5 turbo or 205 T16 for the French race to really get the money coming in.

Can't believe more people dont go down the SOGA route. I got GAME to repair my 80gb twice, the third time it went they gave me the amount I would have got trading it in on a GAME card.

The repair allowed me to get all my save data off.
