Xbox 360 wheel?

Hi

Does a steering wheel make that much difference compared to a controller?

I mainly play F1 2010, FM3, Need for shift.

Certainly for FM3 it will - When you go online, the people weaving like drunkards are using the controllers.

Not necessarily, a fair number of the very top times are done by people with controllers. It really is down to the individual. I personally have never got used to wheels and always get better times on a controller (100% on Forza 1, 2 and 3 so this isnt just an opinion over 5 minutes here and there).
I would try and borrow a wheel first, otherwise you could end up with a very expensive paperweight.

I would have said the same when I got my first wheel, but as soon as I got used to a wheel, I was miles faster and more consistent.. cant use a controller now.

Wheels are the only way to go IMO, same with Fanatec wheels.

Wheels are good but only if you can mount them and the pedals to something solid and in a comfortable position,otherwise a controller is better.All the really fast times are done by people using wheels so if you are serious worth the time and effort to sort out mounting it properly.

+1 This is the issue I have with the wheel and it made me go back to the controller.

I tried clamping the wheel to various things without much success and I was fed up with the pedals slipping all over the place. A full racing rig is an option, but they take up a lot of space.

I just use the Rennsport wheel stand, about £150 Inc delivery and works perfectly...

Wheels are much better than a controller from an enjoyment point of view, however, in my experience, in terms of competitiveness it takes time to be able to do the times with a wheel that i can do with a controller if you've only been using a controller before.

Thanks for the replies.

The problem is I live at home and live at Uni throught the year. At home I have not got a place to mount a wheel on anything as I am in my frontroom. So it seems that I could just got one of them folding seats and attach it to.

What do you think?

I could never go back to a controller after getting the xbox wheel.

I do wince a bit when someone walks in and sees me using it due to the sheer geekiness of it

I got one of the last wireless wheels for a stupid price off ebay (could have had a new Xbox for the price) fitted to a wheel stand pro, its a superb set up but I'm 50/50 between the controller and the wheel, using the wheel is superbly accurate but i think I'm just used to the controller, takes a bit of getting used to but once you're in the zone its heaven, FM3 is amazing with it.

I bought one recently, paid circa £60 from PC world. It was bobbins. Cant remember the brand (madcatz maybe) but I took it back the day after I bought it. A lot of people rave about the fantec wheels but they cost a bomb. I find it hard to justify £250 for a gaming wheel so I'll stick to the controller.

If you play forza alot then the only wheel to get is a fanatec. As using the clutch is about a second a lap quicker than normal manual. But the MS wheel has no clutch pedal and using the buttons is awkward. But as before to get tge whole fanatec and stand set up your looking at around £400!!! Which just doesnt seem justifiable for abit of gaming...

As others have said the lack of clutch pedal on the MS wheel is a pain especially when its so easy to use the clutch when you remap the controller. Having said all of that I'm still allot faster using the wheel than the controller through fast sweepers or very tight sections.

I've not noticed the lack of the clutch pedal at all, I would say that having the 360 wheel though.

To be honest I'd say that anyway, I'm too lazy to have on in my real car too now

i know alot of you people you use wheels, but i've tried several times and i just cant seem to get used to the wheel on FM3, is there any settings i should be looking at to make it feel better

definately did with my f1

i was really struggling with the controller even with auto braking but with a wheel i was flying - so much easier esp as if you drive and can do the pedal thing with alot of ease.

mind you saying that this was also the first time i played it after the update
