PS3 won't eject discs - What to do?

So, it's been getting worse and worse, to the point today it took about 50 attempts to get the disc out!

So, while it's out, what is the best plan? It is easy to fix? Should I trade it in somewhere, or would they check that? If trading it in, where is best to trade it in? Or just sell it to CEX or somewhere like that, and buy another one?

What do you all think?

I eventually got it to eject through the menu - wouldn't eject using the button.

Nope - It tries to eject, but I think the tray is out of alignment or something. Not keen on opening it up personally though.

It's not too difficult, although it does depend which shape ps3 you have. Which is yours?

I have an almost identical picture to the one above unfortunately.

It's the original 40GB version, so very old. Definitely not going to take it apart. I'm not a 'handy' person, and always end up breaking more of what I'm trying to fix. I guess I'll try my luck at CEX tomorrow - they offer £70 in working condition... They may not check the disc eject.

You could probably get it repaired for about that. It's out of warranty so I wouldn't worry too much.

I think Sony will repair or replace for a fee as well. A friend returned his 40gb to Sony and payed about £105 (I think). they replaced it with a refurbed slim.

My old one started doing this. Before it got ylod
When it's off... Hold down the eject button for 10 seconds.. Then press power button whilst holding eject still.
If its also freezing in games and bbc iplayer etc too... Trade it in quick before it dies!!! Atleast the new owner will have warranty

Trouble is, I guess anywhere I trade it in, they will test it to make sure it works. I'm thinking I may just keep it and use it for media or something... Or I could hack it, since I'll have 2 PS3s anyway, and download all of the offline games I want to play on it?

Just seen your edit. £105 is a bit rich really when I could get a brand new 320gb slim for £195 at the moment, and keep/sell the broken PS3.

Currently looking at ways of using it, and reckon I'll just keep it if I can't palm it off on CEX. Can use it upstairs for media or something.

I can see your point. My friend got a 320 back but I think he only has a years warranty so you're probably better off your way tbh

Sold my faulty (disk problems) 60gb on that ebay for £50.
With the trade in on the xbox a new slim was a good plan, it's much quieter and cooler and worked better for me.

Well, I've tried it this morning, and it's ejecting fine, time after time. Anyone know the best trade-in deal at the moment? I think I'd rather trade it in and buy elsewhere though, so anything better than £70 from CEX?

Nah, because just my luck it'll break again and they'll want their money back! I'll probably nip into CEX over the weekend and try my luck. Fingers crossed!
