Is my PS3 broken?? GT5 disc not working

I've put the question in this section as there are a lot of GT5 players who may have experience of this.

Has anyone's PS3 refused to play discs? Tried GT5 today, the disc goes in OK but doesn't spin. The game doesn't appear in the games list.
Tried 6 other DVDs and Blu Ray discs and the same thing happens.

Is this a known problem and can it be solved by some kind of reset? GT5 was playing fine yesterday.

I have had this with some games, and some blue ray DVDs.

I take it the disc isn't' scratched. in my case small child grubby hands and dirty laser. cleaned laser and now clean discs regularly.

Gave the vents a good hoover this morning, put the disc in & out a few times (and gave the unit a few 'taps') and it's working again!
I've had the console since Christmas and GT5 is the only disc based game I have. Maybe the mechanism was sticky because the disc wasn't ejected for months on end.
