Has arrived at my house

Question is, is it worth trying to take it apart for a repair or not ?

Loads of unreliable info on youtube and the net....

Pretty pissed off tbh, hardley used the bloody thing since the winter, and even then it didnt get hard work.

I tried and failed on my old fat ps3, but did follow a YouTube guide to get the disc out. I then sold it on eBay for about £60.
I bought a new slim 160gig from sainsburys for 195 in a sale.
Really annoying loosing all saved games, there's a way to copy your hard disc too though

A brand new slim 160GB is only £199 RRP, but plenty of deals for less especially if you buy with a game.

Stick the old one on ebay as spares/repair, buy the new one and it'll probably cost less overall than getting your old one fixed.

It's actually dead easy to fix but I found it was a temporary fix. Fives times I did it before I bit the bullet. Think it was held together by about 2 screws in the end

There is no way to permanently fix a broken PS3 with YLOD. You can back up most games to a memory stick which is what I do. New one is £180 in Game I think.. might be £200.

Can you not buy a new PS3 and swap the hard drives over to keep your save games?

No the hard drives are encrypted so as soon as you put another hard drive in it will say you have to re-format it.

You can do a short term ylod fix and then you can transfer all your saves and downloads over to the new ps3 via ethernet cable..

Ah thats rubbish then. I guess the new online game saves could be handy if you have a Plus account.
