I've always gamed on a PC, mainly FPS online gaming using a mouse and keyboard.

I fancied a bit of GT5 so I bought a PS3 yesterday and got Deus Ex free with it.

How on god's green earth are you supposed to hit anything by twiddling a daft little mushroom on a controller? With a mouse it's a piece of cake but with that it's like a drunk with motor control issues is playing. Couldn't hit a barn door with a fat bird's arse - any tips? ranting

Well, YOU SEE THAT BUTTON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CONTROLLER? PRESS IT AND IT TURNS IT ON!

Sorry, just thought i'd speak a little louder for the elderly hard of hearing..

In all fairness, aiming and controlling your actions with a console controller instead of a mouse and keyboard does take getting used to. Whatever game you're playing, start off with the tutorial type area (if it has one) which will guide you through the controls for that game, and just practice with the movement of the sticks and use of function and shoulder buttons at the same time.

For FPS games, the aiming takes time, and can be easier by changing the controller sensitivity in-game or via the PS menu. Its all about time really. Playing more often with it and getting your hands used to the difference in movement.

GOOD LUCK GRANDAD!

Don't worry old fella, when Counterstrike comes out on the PS3 you can use mouse and keyboard so you don't get pwned* by all the pc lot you'll be playing alongside!

  • pwned is youth vernacular for beaten in a competetive way!

rofl

turn Auto-aim or what ever its called on, this will help you "track" moving bad dudes.
Other than that. Get used to it.
I agree, its stupid and consoles are NOT the medium for playing FPS games.
On the other hand since Halo came out it seems that SOME people can get by. so it's clearly us that's wrong.
But all I'm going to say is Circle Strafe.

You get used to it. It takes time, but you do. There is also likely to be something in the settings to adjust the sensitivity to closer to your liking.

Just think of the right analog stick as your mouse (aiming) and the left analog stick as your arrow keys or AWSD keys, albeit in an analog sense.

Nah, I think I'll stick to 'pwning' the yoof in Counter Strike on my PC. Nothing annoys 12 year olds more than getting knifed for the 10th time by a bloke older than their dad who's been playing CS since they were on their potty! biggrin

I'll stick at the wobbly mushroom for a bit longer, then probably start sulking and go back to my PC for FPS fun.

I'm sure you can use a KB&Mouse on the PS3?

It has to be said, the PS3 controller is far harder to use properly than the Xbox 360 version.

that was not a suggestion to try it!

It always used to be the case that in console games you couldn't Circle strafe (think goldeneye)
where as on the PC you had Strafe left and right as control options, allowing you to strafe left while moving your aim to the right which had the effect of making you run in circles, round your opponent, while filling them with lead....
A tactic which led to so much rage back in the day...

cloud9 Ahhhh, Back in the days when I work for the I-Series and World Cyber Games.... those were the days

Actually no they were not...

Oh, I won't try it then. The annoying thing is I could massacre the entire enemy side on an online 'rifles only' game of MOH with one hand tied behind my back and yet with this devil's proboscis of an uncontroller I have as much accuaracy as a parkinsons sufferer in an earthquake whilst being tazered. frown

I use one of these, an Aimon PS which I bought from http://www.renchi.com

It's not perfect and will never beat a decent mouse on a PC, but I can at least get a few frags in Black Ops now smile

Golden eye WAS the one you could. Where as the others you couldn't.
Plus I hated the N64. with a Passion, worst controller EVER! Worse than the Original Xbox controller

No, I just didn't like it (Read: I was st at Goldeneye)
the controller was awful. I'm normally a Nintendo fan boy (I've got everything else they've made (NES,SNES,Cube(also didn't like the controllers),Wii,GameBoy,GBC,GBP,GB Micro,GBSP,DS,DSL)
I'm a PC gamer at heart, just flirt with these consoles.
