I think someone's missed the point here. There's 1,000,000 FPSers, only 1 Syndicate.

Could work if you control a team and roam in a city. and use your loot to invest in guns etc. a overhead view game just doesn't sell as much as fps on the consoles.

He he, I remember letting this run all night and all day on my SNES racking up money and researching sweet new tech!

I do agree, we need a rethink. Syndicate had the feel of an RTS, not an FPS. Sometimes I wish a developer could come up with something a bit more original. Just because we have the power to do 3D rendering, we don't have to do it the whole time!

I have a feeling this will be terrible. Smacks of a generic first person shooter that they have rummaged around the titles box and found the Syndicate tag to slap on it.

Exactly.

Probably won't even have the over the top weapon select sounds from Swars, either.

They already ruined C+C. The original was sublime, near faultless. Red alert was almost as good. Tiberium dawn/sun (the 3rd one) was just cack. after that, it got even worse. Pity.

Yes but not into a FPS. We are not all COD lovers.

It's already been done, it's called Deus Ex 3 and it's brilliant.

Just take the Deus Ex graphics, atmosphere and feel. Add 3 squad mates, go up against other corporations.

It's a shame they are doing this, I loved Syndicate.

If its done right it could in theory work but it would have to be spot on.

I could imagine a dark atmospheric bladerunner-esque environment, plenty of mist effects, neon lighting, and a futuristic electronic musical score, crossed with a stealthy gameplay ala manhunt where you track down and stalk your target, set team formations and stances, and then pick your moment to strike using your choice of attack whilst using the cover and light to your advantage. When your cover is blown you can pop your adrenaline and inteligance and tear the place up as you dash to your escape shuttle pod.

This probably wouldnt happen though frown

Can't say I'm surprised this has happened seeing as EA is involved and I guess first person shooters equals more profit and require less effort to make i.e. use an existing game engine. All I can say is at least DOSBox exists and allows most old games to run on new machines without any problems.

On the upside the Carrier Command remake is looking like it will do the original justice, unlike the new X-com and Syndicate.

The logical progression for a modern Syndicate would have been a gritty, futuristic GTA style sandbox game (not like the cartoony Crackdown!) with the ability to control your squad like in Freedom Fighters.

But no, random generic FPS it is.

Erm;

http://www.ea.com/uk/news/ea-announce-syndicate-re...

EA said:
Starbreeze Studios delivers a unique and brutal sci-fi first-person shooter experience set in a not too distant future, where business is war. Players take on the role of Miles Kilo, Eurocorp’s latest prototype agent, and embark on an epic action adventure full of corruption and revenge.
EA said:
Our goal with Syndicate is to provide a challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original. I’m sure they will enjoy and recognise the legacy that made it such a classic,” says Jeff Gamon, EA Partners Executive Producer. “Fans of the franchise will recognise many weapons and environments in the game, but in a whole new way. The game also provides a separate and deep 4-player co-op mode featuring missions from the original cult classic, which adds another layer of depth to the overall experience.”
That sounds like a generic FPS to me.

I doubt any of the things that made Syndicate 'Synidcate' will feature other than it being set in a cyberpunk setting and we've just had that with Deus Ex: HR.
