How to move Saves from Dead PS3
Discussion
Hey guys
Our old fat PS3 died on monday and wont turn on. Managed to take it apart to get he disk without an issue. I then thought it would be wise to move the 500gb HDD from that system to our new slim system that we got last week.
However the system keeps saying it needs 3.7 update or later, so I put this on a USB stick and it still is asking for it!
Is there a way to copy the saves from the HDD onto my PC or can I copy the system data from the new PS3's HDD onto the 500gb one and then slap it in?

If the PS3 is no longer switching on you are sunk.
The hard drive is encrypted so can't be accessed by any other PS3 or PC.
What was the failure? YLOD can be reflowed usually to get saves off, wouldn't do it to try to play games but you may be able to pull saves and the like off before it goes again!

Yep was YLOD. That does indeed suck as I have all my test drive 2 and GT5 saves on there. Thankfuly I moved a lot of the other saves to the new system. The hard drive is encrypted so can't be accessed by any other PS3 or PC.

Any idea how I can get the other PS3 to pick the HDD up? It says on boot that it needs to format the system partition but is unable to find the 3.70 update I have on the USB stick.
