PS3 Not Loading Games

For a while now my PS3 can't seem to load games, before that I could play for a few mins before it kept freezing. The odd thing is that it will play DVD's. What is the cause as I don't understand why it'll play DVD's but not games?

Thinks it's the blue ray laser, it happened to a mate of mine where it would play DVDs but not games but it eventually stoped playing them aswell.

You can buy a new laser for about £30 of eBay and have a go at it yourself or get it repaired for about £80

It's happened to me before, and apparently the laser is the problem. It can be repaired, but as I had an old 'fat' PS3 which are supposed to be more likely to suffer YLOD etc, I opted to get a new slim one.

I've got the old fat one. Also how do you replace the blue-ray part, as I can't see how to open up my PS3?

Thanks for the link. I don't think I'm brave enough to try the repair, though my dad might be so I'll ask him next time I see him.

When you dissemble the drive be extremely careful of the tiny, incredibly thin red and yellow wires that attach to the connecting block that links the drive's motherboard (which is mounted on the back of the drive) to the drive.

These wires are incredibly easy to sever and can render your PS3 completely kaput if broken, requiring a whole new drive (which is extremely tricky to obtain the correct one).

Trust me, I had to go buy a slim.

My PS3 is in parts and it was easier to take apart than I thought. I haven't bought a new laser yet as I wanted to make sure which one I had, also I'm going to need to buy some screwdrivers as one of the poundland screwdrivers has shredded it's tip.

As I said before, be extremely careful of those little wires as it could write off your ps3 before you will even realize it

Fortunatly there were no small wires. My PS3 is easier to take apart than the one on the link provided.

Is your backwards compatible with the PS2?

Acording to wikipedia mine isn't.

Hmm, maybe that is where the difference could be in the hardware between yours and mine? I wouldn't really know though to be honest.

I've bought a new laser so I should get it next week. It's part number KEM-410 which has 2 lasers which is different to KEM-400 as that only has 1 laser.

Right I've put a new laser in my PS3, put it all back togther and switched it on and tried to put a game in. The disc won't go in, the PS3 won't pull the disc in for some reason, so I'm taking it all apart to see what's wrong.

You didn't reset the eject mechanism properly. Reset it and it will be fine

How do I reset the eject mechanism? I can't see anything about it on the link provided.

Unfortunately you will have to take it apart again and set it to the correct position.

There is an instructional video on youtube made by some new zealanders/australians (not sure which) that shows how to do it

I've found the video. I'm going to do it when I get home as I don't have the video lead with me. After that then I hope my PS3 works how it should do.

Right I think I've reset the ejection system and yet it still won't take the game. Also the PS3 still won't load the game so I'm a bit stuck as to what the problem could be. There is a wire that's only connected at one end, I can't see where it connects to. I remember it not going anywhere when I first opened the PS3.
