Erm, can't you just delete your card details/billing information after you've purchased what you want?.

That's what I do, therefore none of my important info is stored on my account.

"Hacked" is a strong term. Sounds like someone had the dataset of usernames/passwords from last time, and managed to log in to the accounts of people who stubbornly refused to change their PSN password from last time.

This kind of thing happens all the time with Steam, Xbox Live, MMO accounts etc. The difference is the companies who run them don't let us know about it.

Unfortunately for Sony, the LV0 PS3 encryption keys have been leaked. This leaves the system vulnerable and allows it to be fully hacked. This hack is said to be irreversible and and irreversibly hacked for good.

This will allow the user to "full custom firmware access, alternative OS support, and the possibility of rolling back the more recent firmware versions,"

I'm pretty sure when Sont got hacked on the 3.55 firmware that the keys were then changed.

The difference this time is these keys were not released, with the LV0 keys released no amount of firmware updates can 'fix' the issue.

Basically short of issuing everyone a new PS3 sony are fked.

Hats off to them for resisting this long though, it's been an impressive run.

High-street "mobile-phone unlock 4u" shops will "chip" a PS3 for £80 so you can play "home-brew". A side-effect of this will let you play non-original discs. Copies.

People will start downloading games and burning their own. People will start selling copies at markets for £5 each.

Game sales will drop.

I don't have any figures, but I can't imagine that didn't affect the sale of original games.

Sony should be more ruthless for example if a hacked console connects to PSN it's banned or changed so it can't be used. Doubt they could implement this on PS3 but PS4 I don't see why not

I don't think chipped PS1's affected sales. I never bothered chipping mine and used games back then were cheap enough. People will need bluray burners to copy PS3 games too
