Recommend me a racing game?
Discussion
Now the nights are drawing in and winters on the way etc etc, can you recommend me a racing game? I don't have a PS3 or Xbox so would need to buy the consol to! Basically I want a realistic experience both in terms of graphics and drivability. I supose it's between Forsa and Gran turismo. I'm leaning towards the PS3 as I can use it as a blue ray player. Also where's the cheapest place to buy the kit? Your comments and opinions would be appreciated as usual!
A ps3 is generally a nicer all-in-one console to have, but forza is the way better of the two games imo. I bought an xbox purely for that one game. If you are looking for the ultimate in realism though, I think there are much better games for the pc. I'm sure someone will be along to expand. OTOH forza 4 came out yesterday and is should be amazing...

Forza all the way. Normally I would say ps3 but gr5 althought s great game lasted 20 mins before I completed it.
Forza 3 was good but lacked some understeer feel. Just bought forza 4. Hoping it's better.
Also Xbox games all come out as 1080p ps3 all 720p. It's annoying. But it is a great blue ray player.

I have both consoles and the 360 is hands-down the better "games" machine. It's a subtle thing; better exclusives, better controller, better online (all my opinion) but I was disappointed with GT5 which was the reason I got the PS3 (and now it's the best media player I have.. go figure), but I'd get Forza. It's awesome!
Best place to get a 360 , 2nd hand and comes with a 1 year warrenty
Very cheap
got one from them last year.

If you're going to want a wheel, the XBox isn't the way to go, the Microsoft wheel doesn't have a good force feedback set-up, and Microsoft will not let third party wheels be used with the 360, other than the very expensive Porsche wheel.
Logitech G25 (or G27 if you want buttons and have the cash lying around) is an excellent wheel, has clutch pedal and H pattern shifter, leather rimmed wheel etc. etc.
Handling wise, I found Forza a bit easy, GT5 seems to have more depth, and a bit more of a learning curve. GT5 has a lot of tracks, and a track creator, and a good selection of cars, but Forza 3 (and so I assume 4) have Monaro VXRs in...
There have been a lot of updates to improve GT5 (up to 'spec' 2.00 just this week) but the car customisation isn't as in depth as Forza if that's an important part.
Neither can compete handling wise with Live For Speed (not Need For Speed, that's an arcade game) on the PC (and possibly Mac, maybe google it) then handling on that is truly exceptional. Worth trying the demo at least

Race Driver Grid on PS3.
Yes, I know it's an old game now, but still bloody awesome and given me days on end of fun, particularly with the logitech steering wheel and pedels. The game will be pretty cheap now too, and the extra content online (small fee) is worth it too for the extra cars.

If you want a wheel then get a fanatec wheel. they do an xbox compatable wheel that then works with PS3 and PC. I have the clubsport pedals and its amazing. You can adjust the FFB and deadzones independantly from the game incase it fails to have the setting Also you have some smart advance functions for even further feel.
The pedals are all hall sensors on clutch and accelerator making them accurate and open to much better feel. Best still is the brake is a load sensor so it feels real.
Forza is easy if you dont run full simulation. I do run it with just ABS and no clutch as I use paddles. (Like most super cars do)
GT5 is good for feel compared to forza 3. forza has to much understeer too. but forza 4 is seaming better. still testing.

ffs how can anyone even conside GT5, never in my life have I wasted as much time waiting on a game loading even when installed to the hard drive. Its worse than when I used to load stuff off cassette tape back in the 80's. Even a "quick race" takes about 10mins to get started theres that many different loading stages to go through.

The I would suggest there is something wrong with your PS3. My loading times are very short now. Ok I had to wait for 40 mins while it installed, but Im not a screeming 13 year old who WANTS TO PLAY NOW. So it wasnt a problem for me.willisit said:
