Xbox LIVE Gold Membership - Experience with eBay sellers?

I've always renewed automatically at the standard price which has been debited from my card every 12 months. However, since my last card expired earlier in the year, I've now decided to start buying the voucher cards instead.
I've noticed quite a number of sellers on eBay with 12 months Gold membership for around £29.99 (one even doing 12 + 2 months free for £32.49 which I'm very tempted by), but am worried I'll get the code emailed or something like that, it won't work and I'll be £30 down in a matter of hours.
Checking the sellers over, they all seem to have spot on feedback, so am I worrying for nothing? Or should I stop being such a tight arse and go and buy a voucher from Game?

have a look on your xbox dashboard... i renewed mine last night for £26 through the dashboard directly - some special offer.
Think it was in the 'Xbox Today' section or something?! a couple of tiles in to the horizontal stream, had a picture of a soldier type game, BF3 possibly?! wasn't paying too much attention to that bit TBH but the 'renew for £26' caught my eye

Just bought myself a voucher from the web. Like you, was a little less than convinced, and had noticed a 12+2 offer on the dashboard (you get them if you are on Silver), so rang Microsoft to see if they would do the offer, as the dashboard had some 3 month offer on. No, was the answer, they wouldn't.
OK, so you'd prefer me to buy a voucher, with no chance of auto-renewal, that MS have already banked the revenue on, rather than giving me an offer that will come up again at the end of the month?

Hmm, interesting about the dashboard deal Jim. I'll have to have a look later and see if I can see it. I got a rather timely email from Microsoft yesterday with an offer of 14 months for £39.99, but considering there are the same deals on eBay for cheaper, in a way it seems like a no-brainer.
I've always found it odd that Microsoft have never really offered any loyalty deals to long-standing customers, as this will be my 5th year running, after 4 automatic renewals. I guess people who want to play online will buy regardless, given the kinds of content now available.
The sellers I've been looking at have 100% positive feedback and most have offers of refunds or replacement should any problems occur. Suppose I'd have to deal with any issues if they arose through eBay if it came down to it.

Interesting. May have to check this out a bit later and see whats what. Around that price would be good if they are legit, but always know that trying to save a few on things like this usually just ends up in disappointment.
Think I'll try the dashboard idea first and see whether its cheaper. Ideally, I don't want to buy using my card again to prevent automatic renewals, but if it works out that cheap, then I may as well for the saving.

I've always used the codes off ebay/websites. Of course you can trust them, that's what ebay seller feedback is for.. if it's a new seller with 2 feedback, don't do it? If it's a shop with 1000+ people all saying the card worked fine, then what's there to fear? 
Alternatively, if it HAS already run out, they sometimes do deals on the dashboard.. but they are for a limited time and you could be waiting a few weeks.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Just forgot about it for the last few years and then get an email a day or two before renewal confirming that they have debited me for a further year's renewal.Alternatively, if it HAS already run out, they sometimes do deals on the dashboard.. but they are for a limited time and you could be waiting a few weeks.

Determined not to do that this time, and like you say, the eBay sellers who have hundreds of feedback messages must be doing something right, otherwise people wouldn't buy them.
I have a couple saved and will have a final check this week to make sure there haven't been any dodgy transactions and will probably end up buying from them, seeing that its almost a tenner cheaper for 14 months, compared to the standard price for 12.

I did the same as you jim on the weekend ,after disabling the auto renew on xbox live a month ago, I.was gonna get it through supermarket or play,but saw this at got it for £26 ..no doubt it wouldn't of been there if i didnt disable the auto renew ..
