Updating games without xbox live

Is it possible to update games with patches without a connection to xboxlive? I play NHL12 a lot but a few of the rosters are out of date, team jerseys incorrect etc

So I was wondering if I could download an update to a memory stick and then upload it to the xbox? Or is that impossible?

Nope. Not only will you need internet access, but you will need a Gold Live account. Looks like you can update your own roster by dint of much editing from the controller (boo).

Thanks for posting, I don't suppose you know if the 3-month xbox live trial that came free with the 360 console packages was Gold do you? If it was, I might need to go searching the boxes

Any trials they give you should allow you Gold access, although given the expense, I doubt it would be a 3 month Gold trial. That's worth about £17.99 to Microsoft. Why not get a 48 hour access pass from eBay or something, so you can update your games, if you don't want to pay for 3 or 12 months Gold access?

You don't need gold for updates, you just need it for playing online surely?

I'll have a look when I get home, pretty sure I have loads of 2 day trials which have come with various games.

Yep. Updates are all available with a silver membership.

Protip: Creating a new Live Profile on your Xbox will give you an automatic free 1 month Gold trial. Just create a new gamertag and download the updates.
