Sky rim tips

Never really played a game like it so have no idea what I'm doing!

I haven't started playing the game yet but it should be arriving today.

Any tips for a complete newbie?

Save, often...

Use your companion to carry things for you (you'll get a weight limit on things you can carry)

Use paths to get places, and not as the crow flies, you'll hopefully discover more locations on the way.

Stay the **** away from giants and mammoths until your a bit stronger!

Try to concentrate of levelling up a few particular skills rather than spreading out over all of them.

there is a giant before you get to white run that is easy to kill and I thought that the rest would be fairly easy. how wrong was i, been thrown in the air by them a few times now , only level 10 at the moment .

Don't get too hung up on the main quest early doors.

Build your skills up using the side quests, Companions, Winterhold College etc.

Then go back into the main game.

Take advantage of all the ways to gain experience. Smithing, selling stuff, making potions, casting spells, fighting, sneaking, picking locks etc etc. There are loads of ways of gaining experience which means faster level ups.

Don't just save often, make sure you have a large number of unique save game slots. I saved often, but cycled through three slots and before I knew it, I'd filtered a glitched quest through all three slots.

I still have the glitched (main) quest, and running out of things to hold my interest (after about 150 hours), so I'm either going to start a new game to complete the main quest, or wait and hope that the (alleged) patch in January will indeed fix the quest glitches I have. They may not, in which case, it'll be worth me starting a new game now anyway, maybe with different style of player.

Good tip this is having more than one save slot, especially in RPG games.
Alternate between the save slots periodically, especially if you make a mistake then save and it's detrimental to the game, you've got the previous save to fall back on and you only lose xx time of gameplay, rather than having to restart from scratch!
