PS3 crashing, dying, annoying the sheet out of me

So Skyrim decided to start falling over and crashing the PS3 tonight. It'll do a few beeps and turn off rather ungracefully followed by a red flashing light. Hmm I'll run the 4.0 update on the system and see what goes on after that. Well it again started crashing while running the update.

I'm currently "installing..." the update after it crashed twice more.

Really unimpressed at the moment as it's been perfect until Skyrim came along tonight.

Anyone else seeing this?

Installed and just starting Skyrim again. Awaiting the next full-scale crash...

Is it an old "Fat" PS3? Reason I ask is I did hear when GT5 came out that some of the older consoles couldn't take it and were frying the processors

i had this issue with assassins creed, then it started doing it with all my games and blu rays. could only turn it on for 10 mins at a time. i ended up buying a new ps3.

Have you made sure there's no dust clogging up the fan intakes? It could be getting a bit hot if it keeps crashing.

my release day ps3 is still going strong depsite playing hours of gt5 and other games over the years, it does make a bit of a racket but touch wood, and a hoover out with the vac once a month, it keeps on going!

Same here, I keep waiting for it to die but (touch wood) seems to love being used for 8 hours a day
