Okay I know there has been many a thread about the above, and not only that, I've been pushing my luck for a long time with mine anyway, as I bought it on the day of launch for the neat some of £1000 (with games and pads) and it has lasted until this day, despite years of abuse. Only for the last 2/3 years it's been
Showing signs, the fans sound asmatic, even when the things switched off for example.

So now the thing doesn't switch on, or it does briefly then bleeps and red light flashes.

So it's inevitable I'm going to have to buy a new one, I can except that. (typical for this time of year, two cars to tax, a service bill and now a new Ps3).

Here's my problems, firstly fatboy has eaten my GT5 disc, and I err wouldn't mind it back, and secondly although I backed up my GT5 save data yesterday, is that enough to continue where I left off or do and I need the other GT5 files, and then finally my other save data, do I have any chance of getting this back??

I would appreciate any advice at this very difficult time smile

Cheers

Eddie!

Switch it off from the back or unplug it, hold the eject and turn it on. It should sound like it's about to take flight and then spit your disc out.

Not sure about your other problems, might be worth fixing yourself and then linking it to your new one via an Ethernet cable and transferring the data?

It's really quite easy to take apart and get working again but ime doesn't last very long

Might be worth a go. That's how I fix PS3 and XBOX all the time.

Take the mother board out carefully.

Place in 200 Degree oven for 10 minutes. Job done.

That will last you over Christmas at least.

Then in January when you can afford another ps3, Take the disc drive out and smash it to pieces to get the disc out. That's what I did a few months ago.(A great stress reliever)

The new slims are loads better, less noisy etc. thumbup

I did the oven trick, a few months back, and its still going strong. I only use it for Blue Rays now, as I bought a new PS3 for games.

Not really a need to take the board out, lot of effort unless you're getting it fixed properly. just use the heat and cool method from youtube, back it up then get a slimline.

Okay, bought a new ps3 today, I don't care what people say but I have just bought the last PS3 availible in my town, if I wanted an Xbox I would have had 700 to chose from....

Anyway the eject and power doesn't work, my ps3 won't turn on!

So I'm going to have to remove the Christmas turkey, (that was alive more recently than ps3) and stick the playstation in the oven. Before I can and do this, is there any other way besides smashing the thing with a hammer, I might get my disc and data back?

Follow the disassembly instructions in the link i gave above. When you get the bluray drive out you can take the top off it to get the disk out. The mechanism will spring out of place but if you're writing the PS3 off that'll hardly matter. As for the data, can't you take the HDD out and retrieve the data with an external caddie?

Cheers by the way VeeTEC, using your link at the moment, like a Delia Smith Vid for Consoles....

As we speak the motherboard is chilling after spending ten minutes in the oven. The Blueray player is being saved, as I may have other plans for this, rather than destroy it for the sake of the disc (at the moment). No wonder the thing packed in, dont think I have ever seen so much dust.

Managed to keep a photo log of the progress, so will post it up, should the 'operation' be succesful, and some one else may find it usefull when the same thing happens to them.

There is no way you can permanently fix a YLOD PS3, the best ones last 6 months or so. Buy a new one, they are cheap now.

Bought a 320 GB slim line with MW3, battlefield and FIFA for £210., and sold the games on for £80, so not a bad deal.

The old PS3 is working well enough now, so have managed to transfer all my data now!

Sounds like we've been in the same boat mate. I've gone for the 160 with BF3 for £190

My ps3, old fat one, started yellow lighting about a month ago. However, it would occasionally turn on. I did the heat thing but that didn't work. Bit of investigating lead to the power supply but that seems to be ok as well so not sure what the problem is. My current solution is a bloody hard thwack on the base if it yellow lights. Once it's running it's fine. I don't see it lasting much longer though. A new one may be ordered from the sales.

My launch day 60 gig PS3 died on my about an hour ago.. with game intact. Tried the fan trick etc and still stuck. Do not have any money for a new PS3.

I have been paying Sony's Continous Play for years - looked for it now and the bloody website has disappeared?!

Found all my details and contacted Sony -> New (Reconditioned 60 GB i assume) PS3 delivered to my work today. Not too bad a service other than the 4-6 week wait for my disc back! And of course the lost data.. must make backups!
